Title: 2015/13 swap out.Telematics loom?
Post by: feeutfo on 23 October 2010, 14:45:43
Do I have to dismantle the entire dash to trace out the telematics loom to go with the 2015?

Or is the telematics loom hidden in the 2013 car somewhere? I have found the phone pre wiring in the 2013 car, but no sign of the telematics wiring...

....think this going to be more involved than I thought.  :(

You will have to build your own Telematics loom as the vehicle I dismantled with it proved it was far to integral and buried to extract......

Not difficult to build one though.

Yeah, thanks Andy, it's built in to the loom which at that point becomes 2inches thick.  :o no way of tracing that back...

So "we" can build our own loom.... ::)

Hmmm, you busy ATM?  ::).   ;)

Nope, Cat5 is not your friend on that one  :-[

Use a proper, shielded, quality audio cable for audio and mic. Cat5 is fine for CAN and diags.

Good Job I hadn't got that far with the DTi loom then! Not that i'm stealing your boot install idea or anything!  ::)

When I did fitted the one in the V6 Elite I priced up the Telematics inner glovebox.... £85.00!!!! Luckily I obtained one through another route!

Don't want to complicate matters, but wouldn't mind doing away with the Bose shelf if possible? It takes up too much boot hight.  :'(

So keep TM in the glovebox, then move Bose amp to tool area, or even to cubby hole (may need loom extending).

The speakers will still protrude into boot area though, no sensible solution to that.

cat 5 can be used for audio ONLY if the connections at both ends are "balanced"  which , in car systems they are not....    (or at least i've never seen one that is)

balanced connections use a polarity inverted signal, a normal signal and then a differential input , canceling out any noise picked up enroute..    twisted pair with overall shield (as per cat V) is usually sufficiently comfortable with  common mode rejection to give a good s/n result.    so a single connection required 3 conductors...   Hot, Cold, and earth, the earth being entirely separate from the signal,     as opposed to unbalanced , where the shield is also the signal earth and is more susceptible to ground  loop issues....

for unbalanced connections, as in most home hifi, and ICE systems,  a decent quality coaxial audio cable, with double lapped copper shield is advised...

if any one needs lengths of up to 20 feet at a time, i have masses and masses of this lying around in the shed...    in the form of no longer required guitar cables, and similar unbalanced line cables.

free to any worthy cause.

i may have the odd bit of fig 8 stereo cable as well,  but most is single coaxial , which generally has better shielding and thicker insulation.

low capacitance cable is best, as it reduces HF loss over longer signal runs.

In fairness, audio quality isn't too much of an issue with cellular devices ;D

Rob G kindly let me pinch the plugs off his mv6 face lift he was braking. It had a 2013 with CID, and have the two plugs  from the loom related to those. Are these correct for the telematics socket?

Yup, the grey one will fit telematics (may need to move some pins)

Just need a full 36way TM loom now
