General Car Chat / Re: Beware Audis
« on: 23 November 2011, 21:29:30 »
The frightening stories of VAG DSG auto boxes continue then.  'trouble is that almost all makes are heading to that sort of over-complex automatic as they pursue better CO2 figures.  And the alternative is a SIX-speed manual now; you'd get less exercise walking! >:(

No my code card suggests that the 2013 does not have a code.   :y

'reminds me when (30 years ago) I fitted an electric aerial on the back of a customer's XJ6 outside the car accessory shop I worked at on Saturdays.  It worked just fine, going up with the ignition and down when he switched off.  Then he operated his electric fuel-tank changeover switch (original XJ6's had twin tanks, one in each rear wing, each with its own electric pump) and it stayed down.................... :)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: 2013 Sat Nav Playing Up
« on: 06 May 2010, 13:01:33 »
Hey thanks for swift reply.  Yes I suspected it would be too hard/not worth doing.  At least it does still get going after a few minutes; I just can't rely on it in a hurry when lost!  Yes i did try CD-based dry cleaners to little effect.   :y

Yeah original CD.  Can the laser focus be adjusted or will I have to put up with it?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / 2013 Sat Nav Playing Up
« on: 04 May 2010, 22:11:06 »
My sat nav is getting unreliable recently; it won't always read the map disk straight away but usually mends its ways after warming up.  Perhaps the CD is scratched or the lens in the drive misaligned?  Any ideas please?   :'(

Interesting.  Mind you, I still cannot believe how costly some OEM systems are on new cars!   :o

'fitted a Veba system in mine.  Head unit in boot (actually in plenum chamber at top), wired through to infra-red headphone transmitter and decent quality screen that clamps to front seat headrest.  You can choose the screen size/quality (tip: get widescreen for films) and it is easy to remove when parked.  It has worked a treat for 6 years and a real godsend on long foreign trips.   :y

btw I think Veba do the OEM units in some car makes so shouldn't be too bad.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Parrot bluetooth

'am pretty sure the parrot website allows you to download instructions specific to your motor.  Mind you it looked hellish complex for mine if you wanted it to mute your speakers etc.  No doubt somebody here will have more experience; good luck!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Battery Charger.
« on: 30 April 2010, 17:57:19 »
'fitted a CTEK 3600 to a different car with the plug velcroed up behind the front number plate for easy access.  It works really well if you can find such a suitable place out of the way of spray and prying eyes.  I did fit an in-line fuse to the CTEK positive lead though, close to the battery; no point in tempting fate!   :y

Well my 2002 brochure states all models had pre-wiring but dunno how far back it went before then.  'don't think my 99 Elite had any.  Roof aerial is obvious giveaway and remember there is also a microphone in the sunroof control panel (although I'm told that it is poor and better to fit a proper Nokia up there if you can)

Omega General Help / Re: Broken Rear Spring

Some non-VX springs are actually better as they do not taper the ends (which is where the originals break off)

Omega General Help / Re: Aircon re-gassing, cost?

Just make sure they add 1.  Oil and 2.  Dye (so that when it leaks and it will, you can see where it is getting out)  :y

Omega General Help / Re: Steering wheel removal?
« on: 06 August 2010, 17:00:08 »
Wouldn't removing the airbag fuse be easier than battery disconnection?  Or it is still dangerous?
(btw RAC man CHANGED my battery with engine running.  Headlamps were on to 'absorb any surges' he said.  I never had any problems subsequently but  I  wouldn't do it myself!)   :o
