Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Key immo cloning.
« on: 02 November 2009, 15:57:28 »
I have a Focus with only one, manual key, and for safety reasons,  I want to get a spare, remote key. Key and cutting is around £30 and I can program remote locking myself (as per Ford manual). I cant program immobiliser with car ECU as I need two keys to do it so I would either ask Ford to pair it with my ECU (which is around £100 for a 10 min job) or get it cloned by a mobile key specialist. Second option is not the best one as some ECUs don’t like two same immo’s around, and it cost ca min £50 for cloning!
Do you know anyone that has a device to read and code 433,92 Mhz key and could do it cheaper than £50?

I have a problem with CCR600 with big CD changer in my Vectra. I know it’s different car, but stereo is the same so maybe you can help me. When I turn the radio on and press “O” button it only gives me “NO CASS” info. There is no way to switch to changer or enter changer code. Eject button only gets illuminated when radio is on but there is no way to eject the cartridge, there is nothing, it’s not even trying.
The was a Parrot system connected before (Bluetooth) but it was installed under plug and play extension. Big plug was disconnected and extension with parrot wiring plugged in. There isn’t any wire cut or soldered.
I tried to take CD changer out but don’t know how, but I’ve managed to connect another (100% working) CCR600 unit and still didn’t found the changer.
My last idea is the fuse on the changer, but why the button is illuminated?
Thanks for any help.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Central locking failed.
« on: 10 February 2009, 09:00:49 »
My mom’s got an Omega as well. It’s a 98 saloon 2.0 CD one. Few months ago central locking failed and since then nobody can fix it. There’s no reaction when trying to lock the car from the fob, but when trying to open, I can hear solenoids trying to work (like opening already open lock).  Locking/unlocking from the key or inside don’t work so I assume it’s a central locking not a fob (I tried second one and I tried to synchronize it – no luck). From what he has told me it started when dad tried to open locked boot with a key but this might have been broken before.
There are no fault codes.
One mechanic said it’s a central locking computer and she would has to replace it ,but as far as I know it’s in the same box with the car alarm and any attempt of swapping these boxes will end up in alarm will go off.
Is there anything we can check to find what’s wrong?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Speed cameras for TomTom
« on: 29 May 2008, 09:57:25 »
I found thin on internet. http://www.scdb.info/en/ It says that for £7 I will get all speed cameras in Europe. I am not speeding but many times I had to drive bit more than 70MPH and speed camera warning from my TomTom saved few £££ for me.
Is anybody using these speed cameras database? Is it worth to pay £7 and is it up to dat?
I am not any speedracer so I don’t need to buy any extra devices to show where all cameras are, but for £7 it might be worth a try.
Thanks for any info.

Omega General Help / Multiple cracks on windscreen.
« on: 29 July 2009, 11:42:59 »
While driving behind other car, few stones made 4 or 5 cracks on my windscreen. Do you know what will the insurance company do? Will they ask me to pay for each crack fixture (4x£15) or just one £15 or will they advice to replace the screen?
This is a heated screen so pretty expensive to replace, thus I would rather fix it.

Omega General Help / Manual gearbox oil specification
« on: 01 June 2009, 16:09:07 »
I want to change oil in my new Ford Focus manual gearbox (lost some during clutch change). I was told that it needs 75W90 semi or full synthetic oil but it’s rather expensive (£15 for a 1l). I can get a Vauxhall oil for 50% of this price so I was thinking if there’s a way to get the Vauxhall oil specs to compare with ford.
I would really appreciate it if you could advice which of Vx oils meets Ford specs (75W90 fullS)
Thanks in advance for your help.

Omega General Help / K-Seal for head gasket?
« on: 17 March 2009, 12:34:35 »
I am writing this one on behalf of my friend. He's got an old heap with suspected head gasket going. Engine temp is slightly higher, pressure has also increased and small amounts of coolant are missing. Apart from that car is running so it’s not excessive yet.
Car is worth...nothing and he wants’ to scrap it later this year, but there's MOT and Tax on it so he wants’ to drive it for another 2-4 months and send it to car's heaven. ;) He’ll be given a company car, but not now…in 2-3 months time.
It's not worth to do the head gasket so he wants to extend life (agony)of this engine.
Do you think that KSeal will do the treat? There are no external leaks, and it looks like that there's only a coolant going into combustion chamber (no smoking, so no oil involved).
I know that it's not the way to fix a car, and thus I have no experience with products like K-Seal, but it's just not worth to fix this engine as it's going to be scrapped anyway.
Thanks for any info

Omega General Help / V6 cambelt kit problem
« on: 11 March 2009, 15:30:53 »
I have recently bought a SKF cambelt kit for my V6 from AutoVaux. Kit was installed by Robsey, but after a while it started making squeaking noise, every 2-3 seconds. It was Sunday so I decided to check on that and found that the belt was misaligned and was pulled ca 2mm towards the engine (it was moved ca 4mm of pulley towards the engine). I have also noticed that grease is coming from rolls, which was even more surprising because tensioner was set in proper position.   I have adjusted everything once again (kept old plate, swapper up & down rolls), but found that it’s doing the same again. All washers are in place (thin under upper roll, thick under bottom one)
Funny enough, friend of mine, that sells car parts told me that they had many claims on SKF V6 cambelt sets recently. Apparently, both rolls fail and are misaligned, they pull the belt and it starts to tear. Don’t know what to do, as I have to do 1300km in 2 weeks time.
Last time I bought a Vx set it was ok, never had any problems, but this one doesn’t look right. I cant check cambelt every week to check if it’s still there, but I know that AutoVaux will complain that I’ve installed it wrong. Or is it something normal and this type of belt needs some time to adjust?

I have a small problem with power steering in 2.5 Omega. When it’s cold it’s ok, but I would say it’s switching from soft to very soft. When it gets warmed up, especially after Parking maneuvers, PS fails but only at low revs. When it’s revved up, it’s ok, but on low revs pump is making loud noises, like when the steering wheel is in max position, but louder.  There is no PS at all.
ABS is ok, dashboard working fine, fluid level is ok, and it’s not black. I thought this might be a pump, but it also can be a steering rack or Servotronic failure.
Is there any way to tell if it’s a pump or a rack and can you please explain bit more about the Servotronic? I know that it’s an extra power steering but is it a valve that raises the pressure inside the rack or some kind of extra pump?
Thanks in advance.

Omega General Help / Xenon goes off after 20-30 minutes.
« on: 03 February 2009, 21:02:39 »
Today, I found that one hid light was off. Thought that it's just a connection, so I have checked everything, but later I've noticed that when bulb stays on for 20-40 minutes and will go off. Also when it's on and I will switch light off and on again this bulb flashes seconds later and is more yellow. If I'll try this next time it'll stay off.
I believe it's a bulb but just asking for a confirmation.

Omega General Help / DIII never used in Vx cars?
« on: 06 January 2009, 14:15:07 »
There are many topics about Autobox oil change. Most suggest to use Dexron III as it’s the best oil and was used in these boxes. I was really surprised, when I went to Vx dealer to get DIII for Vectra P/S.
Guy checked EPC and told that they don’t have DIII for Vectra. I asked him to check Omega Autobox oil and to my surprise there was only DII on the list!! I didn’t believe my eyes so I had to check it myself. There was only 1 oil under 00 Omega!! Another guy came to confirm that and he said that they have DIII but it’s only a Saab item and was only used by Saab.
I wanted to buy DIII and they found it on the shelf – it was in Saab section and they had problems typing item no, as it wasn’t recognized as Vx part.
Many people will say that it’s better to use good oil, but for me it’s like engine oil. I would change 10W40 to 0W40 after 100k as it would kill engine at some stage.

Are they right, or is there something I don’t know?
I am not looking for opinions, just facts. I’ve also changed oil to DIII but I wasn’t completely sure it was right decision and secondly I only did like 10k miles. What will happened after 60-100k?
What do you think about it?

Omega General Help / Auto flywheel question - will 3.0 fit into 2.2?
« on: 07 November 2008, 11:10:05 »
Hi guys.
Can you please tell me if every flywheel from automatic has the same bolt footprint? I know that TD have enforcement plate, but my friend asked me a question if 3.0 auto flywheel will fit 2.2 auto.
Thanks for your help.

Omega General Help / O2S Intergrator - whats that?
« on: 04 November 2008, 06:43:52 »
When checking Vx engines I've noticed the mysterious "O2S Integrator". I've also found that it's above or below the limit in many cars, especially when converted to LPG. O2 Sensor range might be OK, and it's usually the Integrator that is not in the range.
I tried to find some explanation abut it but unfortunately without any luck.
Can you please explain what is "O2S Integrator" and what does low and high values say?
Thanks

Omega General Help / Radio code - only 3 probes?
« on: 03 November 2008, 15:33:55 »
My friend has got a radio in his Astra. It’s a really basic model, but don’t know which one (one DIN, that’s for sure). He had to disconnect the battery and as usual, was asked for a radio code. Tried 3 times and got it wrong (don’t know if the code is not ok, or he did it wrong). I thought that the code can be typed 10 times, but when turn the radio on while holding AS button, I get “07 SAFE” and that’s it, nothing’s happening. I tried to press AS once again but no success. AS is working fine, because without holding AS, I only get “SAFE”, without the counter.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance.
