couple of thousand years ago, a guy came along who said wouldn't it be good if we could all be nice to each other.
for this he was dragged through the streets with a cross on his back, then nailed to that cross....oh yeah, with a jaggy bonnet jammed on his head, stuck with a spear, left to die, taken down, left in a cave blocked with a huge boulder and a guard.
then the body disappeared and he popped up now and then, appearing to a few chosen ones.
to celebrate we stop work and eat chocolate eggs.

I am amazed that people still think of the UK as Christian. There are certainly remnants of a Christian past but there are hoards of people strenuously dismantling those left-overs, particularly in government.
Amazingly the great Christian Leader only asked His followers to celebrate two things. His death (Communion as it's often called) and joining the band (Baptism). Easter celebrations come close to celebrating (remembering) his death although many still celebrate that every week as the first century guys apparently did.
