In which case the Jag may not be the best option.
Any car I buy will need to be serviced and repaired when needed
Not suggesting otherwise, just that something else may need less repairing or be cheaper to fix.

For that example you linked to to be worthy of consideration, it would need to be significantly cheaper.
Like anywhere, avoid main dealers, and repairs are quite reasonable.

As some examples where CBA has stopped me doing stuff myself on the XJ:
Rear wheel bearing - £125 fitted
Alternator - £350 fitted

Oil for later Jags is horrifically expensive, but that is not unique to the marque, thats just modern low ash oils.  For the XJ its about £50 for 20l, for the newer Ingenium engined one, its about £70 for 20l

Common issues with all JLR products:
Central door locking motors start to fail at 7-10yrs.  Part is about £140 from dealer or £30 from egay (but I'd always recommend buying the genuine part for this, from experience), and about 60-90mins to fit.

Ageing battery (or low battery) tends to send off a multitude of electrical glitches that all go away when the battery is charged.

My Mondeo X-Type was thus afflicted. :-\

Great traction though as it was 4 wheel drive. 240 BHP if memory serves.

Got a 3l soot chucker X351 XJ Portfolio and a 2l soot chucker XE in base spec, including a manual gearbox.

Happy with both of them.  XE is obviously more fun to drive, although both handle incredibly well.

I did nick one of joshwyatts XF's (X250 model) for a day as well, a lovely car to drive, despite the A/C not working on that example on a really hot day.

I seem to recall the 2.2 diesel isn't that great, both in power and in getting anywhere near its claimed economy - I'm sure that DTM fella will be able to comment more.  Not sure when the 2.0l came in on the XF, might have been with X260, which again I'm sure DTM can confirm.  The Ingenium 2.0l diesel is a far better option, even more so if its already had its chains replaced - early ones suffer chain failure, maybe due to stupid long oil change intervals?

DIY work on Jags isn't always the easiest due to lack of good information resources - "take it to a dealer" is the common response on many UK based Jag forums.  That said, the cars are mostly well enough designed and bolted together in such a way to do most jobs, but just occasionally you have to question WTF that useless idiot Cullum was smoking.

Dealer parts can prove pricey, but shares many service and engine parts with Landrover, who's prices are cheaper (but they are in the process of aligning the partnumbers and prices), plus there are more Landrover part specialists out there.

Always considered  this a fine looking large saloon even if it has an arse taken straight from a 17 stone black woman. :)

Presumably because the manual has a DMF that WILL fail, assuming that it hasn't already...

Also, not sure that diesel is a cost effective choice.

Nobody wants a manual Jag, except those trying to reduce company car tax.

Not heard it being an issue, though there aren't many modern manuals around.

Ours is 114k, no signs of trouble yet

Seriously though, what are your criteria, because there's a world of difference between an XE and XF...

No preferance on fuel started looking at jags as that was the first thing that came up on search and they seem better value than merc/bmw
