Hi,
I've received help in another post and I think I've found my problem.
After removing the tacho unit, I found that the membrane on the rear that contains all the copper tracks and resisitors is damaged. It appears a resistor has overheated and damged the membrane. There are also a couple of damaged tracks. This makes sense, as tracing them leads me to the warning lamps I'm having bother with.
My question is this. Is this the sort of item I'll be able to source from a supplier, or do I need to start rummaging through scrapyards?
I'm unable to post in the trading area due to small post count.
Any hints or tips on sourcing parts would be gratefully received.
Cheers in advance

not sure if the pfl & mfl are the same. i have a few mfl ones here, mainly from the v6.
-
Id have thought there'd be many a speedo binnacle has gone to the scrappies from OOFers. They don't go wrong very often to be fair, first I've heard of on here. So plentiful in supply (well, every car has one!) and can't imagine anyone asking much for one either...
-
Also Biffa, have a nosey at this lot, see if you can track down what you're specifically after... and we'll see if it's common to all Omegas or only the 2.0litres, or only PFL etc...

Saloon and estate fuel gauges read differently, but wonder if all petrol ones are the same :-\
A side by side picture of the back might confirm any differences :-\

i will dig one out & post a pic later. :y

The Resistors are crimped on, if your handy with a soldering iron cut the old Resistor out leaving its legs and solder on new, you can also repair the tracks as well if needed whilst the iron is hot.
Fairly sure the Diesels and Petrols are different, there should be a Part Number Identifier on the back of the film somewhere.

p.s. what does mfl and pfl stand for?
Cheers

Mid Face Lift '97.5-'99.5...
Pre Face Lift '93-'97.5... :y

When I first started on the forum there was massive issue differentiating between various Omegas. They're all the same car, but the facelift of late '99 was a dramatically revised car, with a totally different interior, and exterior, plus a new(ish) range of engines. So the general use on here is pfl mfl and fl... you sometimes find sellers / websites using 'Omega C', though all these terms were never officially used by Vauxhall. Even the term 'facelift' is just a generic term used by all car makers, it's not an official designation, unlike 'Astra G' 'Corsa C' 'Omega B' etc...

Hi
I've taken a pic of the membrane and a few of the damage.
The casing is dated May '96, so i'm assuming PFL

if using photobucket you need image code.
-
Upload to photobucket, then click on the 'Direct' link, the one beginning with http://
Back to your post, click the image button (like you have been doing, then paste (Ctrl + V) in between, and post. Job done :)

Second and fourth pics would suggest that Petrol and Diesel models have different clusters :-\
-
Erm... yes, sorry you never asked if Diseasel and Petrol are different. I could have told you straight away, yes they are. If only for the extra little curly symbol for the glowplugs. But also they have a different redline for the revs. Plus you may even find as Diesels never had TC, there's no TC warniing light, too.
FL and PFLs have different coloured dials, too. Black to pale grey :y
-
Sorry, I should have given more details at start.
It's a P reg, 2.0 litre, petrol saloon. Looks like a pfl
With black dials
-
Any preface lift petrol cluster should be fine... ideally a saloon one, as the estate fuel gauge will over read if fitted to a saloon as the tank is a smidgen smaller on the saloon :-\
-
No that's fine :y same year as (one of) mine :D
You may even find the 'speedo bit' is the same across several engine sizes, just needs the dial swapping with yours, that kind of thing. As most on here are either a V6 or the BMW TD engine, if you can confirm that the part you're after is the same as/can come off either of them, you stand a much better chance of getting one. :)
edit: as Mr Taxi Al above states, just the estates are the ones to watch - also not a diesel.
-
I was hoping to source just the membrane rather than the whole unit. It appears to be just clipped in place.
Might try a repair first, as it can't be any worse than it is now!
Any ideas where the best place is to try for a replacement one?
Thanks
-
VDO :-\
-
Just to add, Diesel ones only go up to 140 Mph as well (well the DTi ones do at least)
-
Good point. Do the 2.0s read to 150, and the V6s read to 160, or something like? (well the V6 definitely read to 160mph, anyway)
