General Discussion Area / iPhone email issue
« on: 29 September 2016, 10:18:29 »
Why is it that when I am away from home wifi, but connected to another wifi, I am able to receive emails on my iPhone, but when I try to reply, or try to send a new msg, I always get the error msg "...rejected by server".
I can send email by webmail (Plusnet) OK.
This has always been the case since I've had the iPhone, and several times I have spent time on the phone to Plusnet trying to resolve this, checking all the mail settings, authentication, passwords, etc. etc.
I've tried all the so-called fixes on Google to no avail.

Any ideas??? :-\

General Discussion Area / Good manners
« on: 27 September 2016, 17:51:42 »
I always find myself slightly annoyed when someone - often a newbie - posts a query, and, this being OOF, nearly always receives one or more helpful replies, yet frequently the OP never replies or responds in any way. Very bad manners, to say the least, IMO. >:(

General Car Chat / Mercedes crossover

Had a rear view of a Merc GLA 'crossover'(?) on the M4 yesterday. I thought it was one of the fugliest rear ends I had ever seen. :o

General Car Chat / VW TSI Blue Motion 1.4
« on: 21 September 2016, 17:23:55 »
A friend has just bought one of these, forget if its a Golf or whatever, and I read of serious timng chain problems causing engine failure. Any further info here?
I offered to advise on car replacement, but he just went to buy a Honda, and liked this one on the forecourt!!! >:(

General Discussion Area / Vodafone data leakage
« on: 10 September 2016, 21:47:23 »
Iphone 5s, I have never ever used data, and mobile data has never been swithched on. This week I decided I might need it, but when I tried to connect I always get an unable to connect error msg. After spending hours waiting for VF to phone back after telling me that I have used 15mb of data this month and that the phone has a problem, I gave up. But what I can't figure out, regardless of my 'broken' phone, is how it has used 15mb of data according to VF. They were unable to explain either. Clearly it is leaking somewhere.  >:(

General Car Chat / Mokka
« on: 26 August 2016, 17:44:26 »
Friend had his Mokka serviced. The 'engine light' (?) came on. Took it back to dealer. " Ah sorry sir, the oil dipstick had not been put in properly."

Omega General Help / 2.5TD engine sump
« on: 16 August 2016, 16:07:47 »
Does anyone know if the sump, GM 90542602, is the same as BMW sump 22428099 of an E34, or how to cross refer the numbers? It looks the same in the eBay pic. :-\ :y

Omega General Help / TD Sump
« on: 14 August 2016, 16:08:42 »
Bugger, cracked one of the sump lugs pulling the gearbox back in. Suspect one of the 'so-called' guide sleeves was cocked. So the sub-frame has to come off to change the sump. It wouldn't make a lot of difference if I ignored it, but it would annoy me, so I'll swap the sump. >:( >:( >:(

Omega General Help / AR25 vs AR35
« on: 13 August 2016, 09:26:37 »
There seem to be plenty of AR25's available, and I am wondering what the physical differences are. I guess that it is only a difference in the clutch and drive plates, which should be fairly easy to swap. Has anyone any experience of doing this? :-\

Omega General Help / Thrust washer replacement with Sonnax.
« on: 12 August 2016, 15:54:43 »
Now I have the AR35 off the car and in bits, I find I am fortunate in that there is no scoring on the thrust washer bearing surface, so I guess I spotted the broken one fairly soon after its demise. The new Sonnax washer comes with three shims, which I am assuming are used to get the correct end float. However how is measurement of that achieved? :-\ :-\ :-\

General Discussion Area / What am I doing wrong?
« on: 11 August 2016, 18:42:13 »
I have a pic I want to send by PM, it is 260Kb on Photobucket. I can see the full pic on PB, but once copied in the PM and previewed, the RH quarter is cut off, with no slider at the bottom to move across the pic? :-\ :-\ :-\

Omega General Help / Removing a TD gearbox
« on: 08 August 2016, 11:50:53 »
Does the starter motor have to come off for this? it is difficult to tell if the mounting studs are anchored in the bell housing or in the engine section. :-\ :-\ :-\ It would be useful if it doesn't as it is a pig to get at its top nut without removing the inlet manifold. :y
