So, my whole system is fairly rusty, with a holes developing on down pipe on passenger side, probably near the pre cat.
The back box is falling apart.
So whilst a member just across the Mersey is selling a CAT back Jetex, I'd still need to sort out the CATs, and to be fair, I can't justify the cost of even a second hand stainless system.
I digress. The cost of a 3.0 down pipe and Cat is very much less than the cost of a 3.2 system.
So based on this thread, I conclude that I could fit a 3.0 Cat:

If it is I think I've worked out the cheapest 3 combinations on eBay, to replace the whole lot.

I also realise that I probably should be fitting type approved Cats but i think my car is very slightly earlier than the deadline.
So basically my questions are ?
Will they fit?
Is there a better way?
Any thing I haven't considered?

3.0l cats is a good upgrade, if you can find some semi decent ones. They need minor modification to fit. You may need to factor in lamda costs, in case you can't shift your old ones.
The ETS/Eternal mid sections and back box come in around £80-90 delivered. I would be wary of some of the other shite on egay. TBH, if I wanted cheap, shite exhaust sections, I'd visit an independent motor factor and I know that would undercut Ebay.
If its just short term, the bandages can provide fixes to holes on the pipes (but not pipe to box joins), which will probably outlive the rest of the pipe. But as it rusts from the inside out, once one hole appears, the next is waiting to happen.

Not really worth looking further afield from Eternal, IMHO. It's about the most cost effective and also the best quality solution.
The cost of a tank of fuel for another 4 or 5 years without an annoying exhaust drone.. Probably money well spent and, as said, once an exhaust starts to go, it's probably going to be weak throughout.
Cats less so, as they get hot enough not to suffer from condensation, so might be worth trying welding up any damage. If you don't want the hassle of fitting the 2nd set of lambda sensor bosses to 3.0 cats, a 2nd hand set of 3.2 ones from someone breaking one might be a good bet?
Mine were still flying through the emissions test at 240k miles.

If your looking to keep the car and it's a saloon, I'd buy the jetex that anialator has in the parts for sale section, as for downpipes, finding a good set of genuine 3.0/2.5L is going to be difficult, but it's a good mod, after you've fitted the new bosses.

I have heard good things about Eternal/ETS, and have got one on my latest purchase. I suspect they are made by the OE supplier, using original tooling. I have a Powerflow stainless on the other car, which is weirdly boomy with more than one person in the car.
I will be making my own stainless system (because that is my business) and hope that is as unobtrusive as the Eternal.

So 456lbft sent me the CATS off the 3.2 he was breaking.
On the plus side they have sensors still attached, Which means I have spares.
on the negative side the heat sheilds were rusted to f-e----ck

Then on Sunday I'm off to the Wirral to Visit Annilator to pick up his Jetex.
Then Next week a local trusted garage will be sorting it.
And changing the gearbox filter and fluid, whilst they have it.

Hope you bought a big box of plasters for the lockwire punctures ;D This is another good use for jubilee clips....
I think pulling off the crusty covers and not worrying about any replacement is a better, and better looking, solution.
If you want the heatwrap to last a bit longer, spray it with exhaust paint - a little technique reduces the exhaust leaks on a big radial, but the unpainted wrap lasts even less time than it does on car exhausts.

Don't think any of mine still have the heat shields on anymore. Serek did blob some weld on one which had a tiny hole in it after the heat shield departed.
Thinking about it there's still one heat shield in the hedge outside after I encouraged it off and flung it due to the rattling ::) :-X ;D

you find the knackered remains of the covers festering in a box under the bench in 12 years time. 8 years after you scrapped the car......

The OE covers went in the Grey bin, and were transferred to Sefton Councils refuge truck this morning.

I'm insured. I was hoping they'd keep the heat inside the exhaust and make the Cat more efficient. IIRC the exhaust temps of petrol cars is in the region of 300 to 500 deg C But the spec of the tape is 650 deg C

Trusted garage.
I'd do it myself, but i had a heart attack in June, and I think it just might kill me trying to do it on the drive.
They will use the correct gaskets, clamps etc.

Not the cheapest way of fixing my exhaust, but looking forward to driving the old barge again.

I'm hoping that the jetex system will be neay as quiet as a standard a system. Not sure if I should inform my insurer. Probably.

Why?? It's not a modification, you've just fitted a new/sh exhaust system.The same as hundreds of motorist do every day

At cruising speeds 70 ish and below 4000 rpm, very quiet. Above 5000 nicely throaty but not too loud.
