General Car Chat / I wish
« on: 11 February 2026, 10:44:36 »
I was still able to maintain my car myself.

4 discs and pads, 3 tpms sensors £910.

At least it should pass the MOT in a couple of weeks.

General Discussion Area / Openreach
« on: 04 November 2025, 18:50:40 »
Openreach were due this morning to connect me to full fibre.

Over the last few days I've had e-mails + text messages from them asking me to confirm the appointment, which I have every time.

Appointment was between 08:00 to 13:00.

Didn't arrive, reported it and was told engineer was running late and would be there in the afternoon.

At 15:24 on my security camera, an Openreach van came into the Close, reversed and drove off.

Reported it again and was told he knocked on the door to tell us more work needed to be done.

He didn't even get out of the van, let alone stop.

New appointment now made for the 20th.

General Discussion Area / Question for computer wizards
« on: 08 October 2025, 09:55:02 »
I've taken delivery of a new laptop because my old laptop does not support Win 11.

When I try to access my router settings, Edge says access is blocked as its an unsafe site.

I've put the 192 etc into trusted sites but still can't get access.

Any ideas, I've searched the internet but none of the solutions seem to work.

General Car Chat / Cam belt query.
« on: 15 August 2025, 18:15:33 »
Both Astra's are now 8 years old.

Mrs AA's has done 17k.

Mine has done 23k.

Should I get the cam belts changed?

General Car Chat / Tyre Pressure Sensor
« on: 07 August 2025, 09:53:46 »
My front nearside tyre pressure sensor has developed a fault.

Keeps telling me the tyre pressure is about 10psi less than the other 3.

I've done a reset several times to no avail.

Is it an MOT fail as a warning light is showing constantly on the display?

Where's the best place to get it replaced?

Is it a dealer job?

General Car Chat / Astra K electronic handbrake
« on: 17 October 2024, 14:12:42 »
Stopped working,

Message on dash says 'Service parking brake '

Run diagnostics- Inoperative 0v. Not very helpful.

Can't go crawling about anymore as I'm 85.

Any suggestions or is it a trip to the stealers?

General Discussion Area / Salamander Shower Pump
« on: 07 September 2023, 13:40:44 »
This morning the shower pump started 'hunting'.

It works either full on hot or full on cold but any temperature in between it 'hunts'.

A friend of my wife's husband front ended his Nissan Note(someone has to own one).

It was taken in for repair and he was provided with a courtesy car - nearly 5 months ago!

Repairer says they are awaiting parts.

It's a 2013 Nissan, I would have thought the cost of the courtesy car and repairs must be more than the cars worth.

General Discussion Area / ULEZ
« on: 03 August 2023, 17:50:14 »
If that dictator in London recons 90% of the cars are ULEZ compliant, why does he want to extend it?

Prat.

Car insurance has gone up by over £200.

Still slightly cheaper than anything on the comparison sites.

General Car Chat / Smart mot
« on: 14 July 2023, 18:31:00 »
If you want your cartoon pass the MOT use smart mot.

Neighbour used them, they collect and return your car.

It went for an MOT with front sidelight not working, and rear brake lights not working.

Neighbour was assured bulbs would be replaced.

Car passed the MOT - front and rear bulbs still not working.

She only got charged for the MOT.

So, if you know your car is going to fail, use smart mot.

General Discussion Area / 20 mph speed limits

Surely they're going to encourage drivers to concentrate on their speedometer rather than the road.

Just a thought.

General Discussion Area / Changing a shower mixer valve.
« on: 14 June 2023, 08:40:36 »
Set up is hot and cold water tanks + pump.

Do I drain down the hot and cold water tanks and isolate the pump?
