bose audio + ipod = ??
« on: 22 November 2007, 13:38:17 »

just wondering if there is any chance of connecting an ipod to my amp/HU to attach an ipod, or is the only option a casette with a lead?

Anyone done this?

harman kardon do a kit called the idrive it connects the stereo to the ipod and gives you a seperate screen and controller and allows the ipod to be tucked away and charged at the same time.

I have had one for about a year now, Sounds2K had had a couple, they are about as good as it gets without goign to the point of buying a stereo with an ipod connection.....and then you lose the bose

they are advertised frequently on Ebay as well, cost about £50

No worries, i'm actually gonna try it on a cheap 'single din' CDR500 astra headunit first anyway, which is, I suspect a very similar unit internally(?). Now if I could only figure out how to get the damn thing out!  >:(

To me, it looks a great mod and very tidy, who knows, I may go into business!  ;D What model is your radio? Car 400?

That mod sounds like a bit of a bodge, having to play a CD while you're listening, etc.

I had an explore around the innards of my CCR2006 (see the line output howto) and figured out how the switching of the line input for the phone pre-wiring / traffic master works so I may have a go at fitting a line input at some point (if I can fit any more wires behind it!). It should be possible to activate it using the phone mute line. CCR2006 looks quite different to that CDR2005 inside.

Externally, the phone input is mono, but I reckon a stereo one wouldn't be hard to do.

Probably 'bridged' via a logic circuit when mute line triggered, the input is output on all channels, guess you'd just need to interface to a point after this so you can intercept L and R individually.

alas sounds2k will be selling car soon, ive fitted one in my car and was a little disappointed with the results, works well but the sound is distorted on mine, lots of hiss and anything with sssss sort of sounds, just gets destroyed, it does have a line output and i was thinking of wiring it in place of the cd changer, as that outputs at line level. guess it would be easy enough to do, just needs a switch in line.

anyway fitting is OK but can be a bit tight behind the console as there is another little box to find a place for which has the radio tx in it.

i guess that you could wire a small pre amp inline with the sender unit but then thats more work and more stuff to hide.

anyway in short, great idea, just a shame that teh audio is a little sketchy.

cheers

I find the CCR2006 radio is a bit rubbish on FM broadcasts in this respect so I doubt the signal strength is the issue. It's just not a wonderful FM receiver, IMHO.

as i dont have that radio i cant comment but i have the ccr600 i think?? good in most respects but a bit poo for fm, i have been thinking of fitting a new head unit but the expense of a remote controlled one is putting me off, oh and the adapter  for screen and remote controls.

might have to at some point when i put my amp in this car, cant stand listening to heavy metal without lots of bass, sort of takes away the magic of the double bass pedal :P
