I feel fortunate to live quite close to Bournemouth airport in fact very close. Every now and then I get to see some special aircraft flying low over my house including Concorde when it was flying, the Flying Fortress, Mustang, Red Arrows and various other aircraft. Most of the time I am just in the garden minding my own business then something interesting fly's over. Today it was two Spitfires and both Lancasters. Awesome sight and beautiful to watch and listen to. Bournemouth airshow next weekend so it should be a real treat.

Saw the Lancasters over Suffolk, the sound was amazing totally from a different era

A free air show :) Mite trundle along to that :y

We are off to the tin tent next sunday for a month, so I may call in at Sandbanks and walk along the front towards Bournemouth, before I push on to Wareham. Seems too good an oportunity to miss :) :y

Get the camera at the ready!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the Lancaster has damaged an engine, and landed on 3 at Durham Airport. Needs an engine change, and all this weekend's events have been cancelled (yes that means Bournmouth).
Save some money, abandon that dump of Dreary Dorset, and go to the big Nato Flypast over Somerset & South Wales next Wed/Fri

Has anyone ever dug up all those Rolls Royce spares buried under concrete next to an old WW2 (Lancaster?? ) UK factory? ??? ???
Cannot remember all the details, but it became public knowledge in the 1970s.

According to the tweet I mentioned in the other thread, I think the tweet said they had located a 'zero hours' merlin somewhere :y

They're borrowing one from the BBMF. They hope to be up and running for Tuesday, though that sounds optomistic to me. They need to get their engine repaired for the flight home at the end of Sept since BBMF want their loaner back.

A friend who built a Seafire, and is now building a Spit, rescued several Merlins from buried pits, all had been damaged before burial to prevent re-use. However he was able to utilise some by cannibalisation. :y

Those interested in the glorious sound of a Merlin, may also be interested in hearing 4 of its big brother, the Griffon, being run on WR963 at Coventry Airport. :y :y :y
