Interesting developments tonight. Everyone sitting watching pictures of Israeli cities to see when/where the incoming drones hit, if they are allowed to reach their targets. War in slow motion.

General Car Chat / Grandland X
« on: 03 April 2024, 12:37:47 »
We're up in N Yorkshire for a week away. I decided to take the wife's grandland because we can fit everything, including doggie, in one car. Coming back from Pickering towards Kirkbymoorside on the A170, 60mph limit, some old bastard pulled out about 200 yds in front of me in a Chinese MG and decided 40mph was plenty. There was plenty of room (thank fùck) so put my foot down and pulled out. Auto box dropped from 7th to 6th and off we went. Nothing, eff all. I was waiting for the kick I get from my 1.6 astra but it never came. We got past quite easily but I'm glad I did that on a clear road with nothing coming in the opposite direction. I might have come cropper with less time to overtake.
1.5 diesel in a big car......no.

Unfortunately, it's now so secure that third party apps, like Intelligent Octopus, can't talk to it.

General Car Chat / Land/Range Rover insurance
« on: 22 February 2024, 15:23:07 »
I was driving past Sytner Land Rover dealer in Wakefield this morning. Someone has parked a Range Rover outside with proper magnetic signs on it saying
Do not buy a Land Rover from Sytner   UNINSURABLE

Another happy customer.

General Discussion Area / Scams
« on: 22 February 2024, 12:28:11 »
Lot of talk/news/warnings about how sophisticated scams are becoming. I think most of us think that we'd never fall for them, and that's probably true of the more simple ones. But there are some new ones knocking around that are hard to spot, and there's a chance anyone might fall for them. Spear phishing, tap jacking, quishing, heard of any of these? Well read up, be aware.

This one is a bit of a read, but it's a doozy:

Try reading the stuff after the scam story, how the psychology works.

General Car Chat / Car insurance
« on: 13 February 2024, 15:22:05 »
My car insurance is due at the beginning of April and, since I'm lying in bed, bored shitless, I thought I would get a few ballpark figure quotes. I knew it would go up as I've passed the age of 70.
Got a few, ranging from just shy of £800 up to around £950. For a 1.6 diesel Astra  :'(

Imagine being an American, and being asked to choose between Trump or Biden. We've all read about Donalds trials and tribulations in the news recently, but this is possibly worse:

After not getting the bastard the last four times wifey has had it, it's fifth time unlucky. Mo is a trooper, she really is, been bad with it all week but still been into work. I tested at tea time after shivering and shaking all day and it was positive. Hope it's a short term thing, doggie is not very understanding when he needs a crap.

General Car Chat / Pathetic laws in this country
« on: 19 January 2024, 17:34:50 »
There are kinds of new laws passed every year. For instance, prohibiting anyone from calling a spade a spade. But the government are not interested in everyday stuff that affects motorists, like this, apparently:
