General Car Chat / Arvin Meritor Exhaust
« on: 31 May 2010, 08:13:44 »
Has anyone heard of Arvin Meritor Exhaust Systems?
I need an exhaust and there is a new one of these for sale on Ebay but I've never heard of them. He says he bought it for a saloon but it's for an estate.
If it's no good I will go to Eternal.

General Car Chat / Thanks Loo-knee!
« on: 04 March 2010, 19:25:04 »
Just a note to say thanks to Daz for all the help with sorting my new car.
The last thing to do was flush the rad and refill with anti freeze and replace the spare wheel with a proper alloy wheel.
This was done yesterday and I concider the car fully functional now.

It's a pleasure to drive.
As per usual I went to Daz's unit to pay him some money and left with a leather interior fitted and owing more money....... ho hum ( or that's what the missus said - or something like that :D)
I will get some pictures up when it's polished up. It will really look great and the dog loves having an estate boot to himself ;D.

General Car Chat / I've got a 2.5 V6 at last.... Thanks to Loo-knee!
« on: 14 February 2010, 21:25:22 »
I have been looking for an estate to carry our new dog(Greyhound) around. He takes up the back seat so its difficult to carry anyone else.

I have been looking and with some advice from Loo-knee(Daz) I bought an R reg 2.5 Gold Estate Tourer.

The thing that put me off was that the oil cooler had gone and of course it would need the obligatory cam belt followers and water pump  but Daz said this wasn't a problem. It was towed to his lock up and work proceeded.....

I bought a new oil cooler and bits and Daz proceeded to fit it. At the same time he gave me a lesson in what to keep clean and what to lookout for being as I have not had a V6 before.
He put it all back together and asked me to top up the water while he changed the oil and filter.
He came out spluttering and dripping calling me lots of unprintable names - the water was coming straight out and all over him. (Sorry Daz, it wasn't me honest!)

I had to go home and Daz went home to dry out.

I assumed the worst, almost crying at what this (cheap) car was costing. The next thing was possible head gasket(Oh hell more money!) I spoke to the wife and she nearly started crying as well and said I thought you said it was a good car!

It turned out after investigating further that the thermostat housing had cracked and a core plug at the back of the head had come out! It put me in the clear with regards to soaking Daz! but meant he had to deal with the "B" bolt.
I phoned him later and he was not a happy bunny, so I assume the bolt had lived up to its name.

After changing the thermostat housing and sorting the core plug he refilled the water and pressurised the water system - Hurray no leaks!

He put the rest together and put the battery on to start it - cough cough splutter backfire it did them all! :o :o

Daz looked at me, I looked at Daz and there was a deathly silence.... :'( :( once the engine was turned off!

What next? Dis pack of course...

This has now been replaced, along with the spark plugs while it was stripped down.
I turned the key and ahhhhhhhh bliss!!!!
The engine was sweet! :y :y

I can not praise Daz highly enough for his work on my car. All the work was done to a high standard and I would recommend him to anyone needing help (PS he's a lot cheaper than Vauxhall!!!). He knew the engine inside out without having to think about it.

There was one downside though - Rick Astley songs are fairly ok but the way Daz sings them brings on a new way of singing!
I don't think there will be a copywrite problem though  ;D ;D ;D

Thanks Daz, but this does mean I'll be back!

A Yorkshireman's wife dies and the widower decides that her headstone should have the words "She were thine" engraved on it.
He calls the stone mason, who assures him that the headstone will be ready a few days after the funeral.
True to his word the stone mason calls the widower to say that the headstone is ready and would he like to come and have a look.

When the widower gets there he takes one look at the stone to see that it's been engraved "She were thin".

He explodes: "'ells bells man, you've left the blood y "e" out, you've left the bloody  "e" out!"

The stone mason apologises profusely and assures the poor widower that it will be rectified the following morning.

Next day comes and the widower returns to the stone mason: "There you go sir, I've put the "e" on the stone for you".

The widower looks at the stone and then reads out aloud:

"E, she were thin".

Police have just released details of a new drug craze that is being carried out in Yorkshire nightclubs.
Apparently, Yorkshire club goers have started injecting Ectasy just above their front teeth.
Police say the dangerous practice is called "e by gum"

Not the same training that you would aprove of Debs, but certainly an impressive bit of training and the dogs are enjoying it!

If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull ... But that's not the worst of it.

My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close

My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather.

My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins.

It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently.

But here's the worst of it --

Almost every time I sneeze, cough or splutter, either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!
