Hello.

A couple of weeks ago I was driving on the motorway a heard a loud 'POP' sound. A few minutes later there was a small crack on the windshield. At the end of the trip it was thrice the size, so the windshield had to be replaced.

Through my insurance I contacted with a Carglass workshop. Carglass is Berlon's brand in my country, equal to Autoglass in the UK. After a week or so they contacted me to say that the glass was ready and yesterday I brought them the car.

They installed a glass from the brand Fuyao. I haven't complained because I understand that an Omega windshield might be hard to source in 2023.

The glass is perfectly ok but the rain sensor is not working. When I set the switch in the automatic position (marked "--" in the switch) it makes 2 sweeps and then it makes another 2 sweeps every 5 second or so. The 2 sweeps pattern keeps on forever regardless of the presence of water, so it seems that either the sensor is not working or the car has decided to ignore it for some reason. It has always worked flawlessly, and it was working couple of days ago, so I'm positive that the problem came with the windshield replacement.

Today I brought the car back to the workshop and they haven't been able to make it work. The have removed and reconnected the sensor, removed the battery, the fuse controlling the wipers a a few things more. There were no sensor related errors registered.

They are going to order a new sensor, but maybe the issue is not the sensor but the glass of some other glitch. I'm thinking the problem is the glass itself, which seems a bit darker than the old one (and says "Solar tint", which the old didn't).

Anyone had any experiences with windshield replacements and rain sensors. Is there anything special to do after windshield replacement in order to get it working again?

Best regards.

Hello.

Recently the alternator on my Omega died. Once it was out of the worshop, the sunroof didn't work when I turned the knob which opens and lifts it. This something I expect when I have battery-relaed issues and it is fixed by pressing the control knob for a few seconds. So I pressed it in order to reset it, as I did many other times.

This time, the plastic inside the knob broke and I ended up with the whole knob in my hand. Apparently, there were very few Omegas with electric sunroof sold in my country, so it is very difficult to find the piece in scrapyards.

I tried to post in the trading section of OOF, but apparently I haven't earned the right to do it, so I'm writing here. Maybe someone can sell one to me or point me to any other piece I can use to replace it.

I've searched for the GM part number printed in the piece (90563246) and I've found only references to Omega, but maybe the same knob was used in other Opel, Vauxhall or other GM cars and I can broaden my search options a bit. Hopefully someone here more knowledgeable than me has some info about it.

These are some pics of the piece:

Omega General Help / Blinking gear lights
« on: 25 November 2020, 19:57:41 »
Hi.

My Omega acted weird a few days ago.

I had just started moving after a couple of hours parked and I had to stop at a semaphore.

Then right after stopping all the lights in the gear lever started blinking at the same time and the "there is some malfunction in the car" indicator appeared in the dash.

I just stopped the engine and started it again. No ignition. Tried again and it worked. The dash indicator was gone and the car has worked normally ever since. I did a 200+ km trip after that and haven't touched the car since monday.

I've checked the error with the tool and it said it had registered (in the "Not present" state) the code P0705 "( 8 ) Automatic Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction".

The transmission oil was changed a couple of weeks ago. How much should I worry?

TIA

Seems that the CC on my Omega is not working right. This is something my car has been doing since I bought it. I thought it was normal, blamed the auto nature of the car and didn't care about it, but in a recent trip a friend said it was not normal, so I'm posting to ask it.

The car is an auto 2003 3.2 with factory fitted Cruise Control. The gadget works, but it doesn't "lock" the speed as my friend says cruise controls do. When I set the speed, the car takes sometimes (not always) some seconds to (apparently) think about what I did and loses some speed. When climbing, it loses some speed until it finally shifts down and pushes like a beast.

I can understand the downshift in climbs, but the worst is probably  when going downhill. That was what made my friend point at the CC not working right. In such situation, the car simply doesn't hold the speed. It always goes a good number of miles (~6/7) faster than the set speed  :o

Isn't Cruise Control supposed to smoothly keep the speed? Won't it hold the car at the exact speed set by the driver in (moderate) downhills? The why does mine act like it does?

Can loose cables or something like that cause the CC to act like that?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / NCDC 2015 ignores clock settings
« on: 18 August 2012, 11:43:44 »
What the title says.

Clock in the car has always been fine, but some days ago I noticed that it was 10 minutes or so off time (actually, girlfriend made me notice it the hard way).

So I set the corrected time and... the car ignores my settings. It keeps saying that now is 10 minutes ago.

This happens regardless of the time auto update setting being ticked or not, and regardless of the time being set with the audio system and engine being on or off. The damn thing keeps ignoring me.

Google didn't had anything relevant on "NCDC 2015 clock". Maybe OOF has something to say about it.

Hi.

I've took my Omega today after having it stopped for a couple of weeks.

Then I started the engine and the emissions light flashed like mad. Inmediately, I stopped the engine, started it again twice and no more flashing. I got out for a half hour or so trip and the light didn't show again.

I know I should check fault codes, but I won't be able to do it until the end of the month.

I've not noticed anything strange in the car except maybe the car behavior under kickdown. I seem to remember the rev counter going straight into 6000 rpm inmediately after the kickdown, but today it went just to 4000, and it was going downhills.

Can be related? Is kickdown to 4000 and slow climbing to 5000-6000 usual?

 :(

Edit: I'm talking about an auto Omega 3.2 V6 (Opel), with cured 120/130 (by placing the O2 sensors after the main cat as in the forum guide).

Hello.

I screwed it up when trying to clean my electric window switch and it now looks like it has been licked and bitten by a pack of wolves. I need a replacement and the original part is expensive.

I've seen a part in a fairly good condition, but it comes from a RHD Vauxhall and I need it to work in a LHD Omega. The part looks identical, but the EPC shows a different part number. Maybe that's only due to the parts being for Vauxhall and Opel.

This is the piece I am eyeing:

Should I go for it? Will it work in my Opel?  ::)

Hi.

I have a 2003 Omega with a non working rear window blind. In our workshop there is a 1997 Omega with a huge crash. The car is on its way to the scrapyard, but has a working rear window blind.

Can the blind from a 1997 prefacelift be transplated to a 2003 facelift?  ::)

Hi.

I've been having troubles with my factory fitted reversing sensors (no sound at all, not even fault tone, seem to be dead). We're suspecting about the wiring.

Next week we are going to test them with a multitester, but we are missing a sheet with the correct values to compare.

I can't find nothing in the TIS.

Where is that data?  :-/

Hello.

Yesterday I've got my Omega (Opel). It's a dark blue 3.2 V6 from 2003.

I did my first long travel with it and came out of the car with a big smile, but there is something I didn't like that much, and can't find a solution in the manual.

I used the board computer the whole trip in order to check fuel economy (which is actually very good in the highway), but the BC apparently can only work if the NCDC 2015 is on, so I did the whole trip with a radio station sounding and the volume set to zero.

Question is, is there a way (other than setting sound to zero) to have the head unit on (so I can use the BC and sat nav functions) without any sound coming from it (i mean, no tuner and no CD)?

TIA

Hi all.

In my former Astra G I had a sunglasses holder above the door (in the place where the passenger has his grab handle). It looked like this:

In my Omega (which is a LHD Opel) there is a grab handle in the driver's side. I intended to remove that grab handle and put a sunglasses holder in its place, because I am so used to take the sunglasses from there that it has become something natural for me.

Today I had the chance to get a sunglasses holder from a 2010 Astra. It looks the same than the one in my old Astra and the one in my Mom's Corsa.

Problem is that it doesn't seem to fit in my Omega  :'(. The gap between the screws of the grab handle is bigger than the gap between the screws of the sunglasses holder.

I've searched the Opel EPC and there is no sunglasses holder for the Omega.

Question is: Is there a sunglasses holder suitable for such a gap? Maybe from a Vectra, Signum or Insigina? From a Cadillac Catera or Holden whatever?

Any sunglasses holder installed in Omegas that you know?

TIA.

Omega General Help / What toys does my Omega feature?
« on: 18 July 2011, 01:04:26 »
Hello.

I've recently purchased an Omega. I know it has nice equipment, but I don't know exactly what is in it. I'd like to ask you fellow forum mates some cuestions regarding this. I'll post some pics. They are from my cell phone (and, above it, I reduced them to 800x600), hence the poor quality.

First, what kind of mirrors do I have? Do they dim or are they regular mirrors?

The interior one looks like this:

It hangs from the black plastic box that holds rain sensor, if it matters.

I don't think they dim, because yesterday I drove in the evening with the sun on my tail and they didn't look darker. But then, what is the little rectangle under it? What purpose does it serve?

Second, what is this cockroach-looking thing?

It sits in the middle of the dashboard, almost touching the windshield:

Third, sun roof.

The sun roof has the roof itself, which opens, raises and closes electrically, and the sun shade beneath it. This sun shade opens electrically, but doesn't close automatically when I move the  rotary switch to the closed sun roof position.

Is it meant to open AND close electrically or it just opens and must be closed manually?

No more questions by the moment.

Best regards.

Newbie Welcome Area / Greetings from Spain
« on: 15 July 2011, 22:28:03 »

Hi there.

I'm travelling tomorrow to get my brand 'new' Omega. It's a march 2003 3.2 V6 with (seemingly genuine) 140.000 km. Outer condition of the car is near perfect, while interiors look like new. Engine needs a bit of work. Dad (Opel/Cadillac/Hummer/etc. worker since forever) will handle it. Near 5.000€.

Features all the bells and whistles (sun roof, parking sensors, BOSE sound system, alarm, heated front and rear seats and such stuff).

Hope the car is problem-free and that i'll never have to post here for difficult stuff.
