Judicious use of wheel dollies and a winch from some of Nick Ws recollections
only after several phone calls to convince the owner that their breakdown cover doesn't pay the £100 for the use of a pair of skates. Which most of our trucks didn't carry. Skates are considered specialist equipment, as is winching an immobile car.
There are two common types of skates: four independently steerable wheels, or two fixed and two steerable. The first become utterly unpredictable as soon as you apply some pull, and the second break at that point. If you do get skates as far as the end of the bed, it will swipe the wheels off the skate. I hate the bloody things.
I still like the old-school use of a plastic wheeltrim under each locked wheel
Always park your car with the front wheels straight. This reduces the load on the steering lock(do try not to apply it), and if for some reason the key doesn't work will make winching the car a lot more feasible. If they are turned, you'll be paying another £100 for a second pair of skates. Extensive swearing is included in the price....
