Crank Sensor
« on: 22 August 2022, 18:09:31 »

One thing after another lately I suspect crank sensor failed , no resistance at connector and p0335 code. I found the guide on here and got engine mount bracket off it says remove dipstick tube. Is the bracket near the top all that holds it in ? i can't get it out . Why the %%** did they put the sensor there c$$$££

When i did the crank sensor, on wifes 2ltr never removed dipstick tube, as I could not get it to come out no matter, how hard I tried. Sensor can be fitted with dipstick still attached. Once all other things in the how2 have been done. :y

Be carefull if you go down the tube removal. One of the people on here, found when he tried to remove his. That it snapped near the bottom. Granted his is a V6, but just a cautionary warning.

Thank you Addy I will bear that in mind when i resume later . The guide was for a 2.2 so maybe 2.0l different and harder/impossible to get out? It seemed pretty solid.

I managed to get the old one out without removing diptube and it looks dodgy all the electronics were halfway out like the seal on the end had broken it looks like a hall effect sensor type I was expecting a coil. Waiting for new one to arrive now hope I got the right one .it looks like fun getting the bolt back in wish i had tiny leprechaun hands. :)

Crank sensor job is done phew with much swearing. I ordered one from europarts waited it for most of last week but they sent the wrong one.I put my reg in and everything. Got one off ebay in the end I found it impossible to get the bolt in so ended up stripping out power steering pump, aircon compressor and bracket etc. My aircon has no gas in so no problem with that.

But.....not everyone on here is a 'super duper' mechanic that can do a multitude of jobs in minutes, far quicker than the majority, no matter how complicted - or so they profess....
The main thing is Steveh has done the job, and whether it was done differently to how others would have done it - he has done it himself. Well done!  :y

To be honest once you work out where all the bolts are that hold the bracket on (one hidden under the aircon compressor) it's not so bad and I think I'd do it this way again.

Well done. And the good news is that the 4 pot sensors last longer than the V6s. Apparently because there is less heat degradation due to better cable routing.

It would be useful information if you would please post up the link to the ebay purchase.
