"Ebay" text messages.
« on: 20 September 2022, 15:42:07 »

Had lots of texts over the last few days, supposedly from ebay.
"Your security code is xxxxxx. It expires in 15 minutes. Do not share this with anyone.
I assume its some kind of attempted scam. My ebay account is working as normal.
Anyone else had this ?

Ive had approx 50 of them in the last three days. Just changed my password for peace of mind. Dont know if that might help stop the texts. Will see what happens.

It is a legitimate means of verification. But if genuine and ignored, then you wouldn't be able to access your account.

That said, it is possible that someone is trying to access your eBay account but are unable to change the number that receives the verification code :-\

Just edited first post, didnt realise you had replied. I suspect someone is trying to access my account, so password change is hopefully sensible.
Just had another text so password change hasnt stopped the damn things.  ::)

I tried that, thanks Steve. Worse than bloody useless Im afraid.
Anyhoo, the texts seem to have stopped (I hope) since I changed my password.

I used to use eBay quite a bit, bought about 4/5 cars off there. But I haven't been near it for about three years, just not worth the hassle.

Mystery solved.
About a week ago when we were visiting the outlaws the FIL (who is 81 and partially sighted) mentioned he couldnt get into his ebay account.
Swmbo set about sorting it out, up to the point where a mobile number was required for them to send a security code to.
I volunteered my number and we got it sorted.
I forgot all about this until swmbo was speaking to him on the phone tonight and he mentioned he couldnt get into ebay again.
He had been trying over and over for the last few days.
Then the penny dropped. Every time he tried to login (possibly not inputting the correct details due to his sight) I got a text from ebay.  ::) ;D

Been using eBay a lot lately selling lots of my car collection done really well & had no problems whatsoever, also had two London Transport bus ticket machines which belonged to SWMBOs father originally, thought I'd test the water with them first sold for £595 and the second sold for £490, so my advice is check out your loft as there is always a buyer out there..

I've made a whole heap of cash over the years, purely because your average Ebay buyer is thick or idle, or both.  In the last few years, I have been selling brand new stuff above the retail price, and they still buy it.

I was mostly right then, I just hadn't considered it being self inflicted  ;D
