But big, heavy and slow steering. Could easily run away from you if you get a bit too brave too soon.  ;)

It's lucky I'm still a young man.

OMG probably the worst attitude for an elderly born again biker to have!  :o                                                                         ;D

This is not going to end well..😄

Ooops...not grammatically sound.

Should read 'Black woman' as AP have changed the rules....... white woman must be written lower case as must white man. Black woman must use a capital 'B' as must Black man.

From one 'white' man (lower case) to another 'white' man (lower case)......it certainly is boll*ocks......but sadly it is true boll*ocks.

Email from the auction house....

The FJ1200 has been stood unused since 2016 when the owner died. It was apparently running prior to this point.

So the battery will be totally shagged. Is the motor likely to be seized solid?

I'd expect to do a full fuel system clean:

drain the tank and inspect the interior with a camera.
remove and strip the fuel tap
replace the fuel hoses
remove the carbs and pull the float chambers to decide how much more work is required.

You could just dump whatever fuel is in it and try it, but my experience shows that just makes things worse. The more complicated the fuel system is, the more important doing this is: for example, just trying to start a DC3 that's been standing for some time will do several thousand dollars worth of damage to the fuel pump and carburettor. On each engine....

Might need carbs stripping and cleaning to remove varnish. I would put a new battery on it. Maybe a few drops of oil down the bores and allow to soak in for for 24 hours, drain fuel and put some fresh fuel in, then give it a try. Maybe rock it back and forth in a high gear to turn the engine over, before pressing the starter button ?

I'd start with a visual inspection then in no particular order....
chain and sprockets could be shagged before it was even laid up and shocks and 4 years won't have helped
brake calipers rebuild ,fluid replaced, new pads ,possibly discs
drop gear oil and check/replace, drop sump oil/filter check/replace
dump the fuel, flush it,  strip and refurb the carbs with kits, spark plugs ,air filter
tyres will be bummed ,even if they have tread
electrical system may well need work, cooling fan stuck , starter toast, corroded connectors etc etc
it can get quite expensive in parts

enjoy  :)

Thanks chaps.

I really don't want to overpay.

A decent running FJ1200 can be had for less than a grand. An ABS version can be had for around £1200.

I'm not a motor bicyclist but, if I was, I'd want stabilisers on mine.  ;D

I think blanking off the first four gears would make one more suitable for me :y
