next door neighbour sudden demise
« on: 11 November 2021, 23:32:13 »

my neighbour went to the gym with his son & my grandson , he is 45 & the two lads are 18. whilst my neighbour was on the treadmill he some how twisted his ankle . apparently the next morning he could hardly walk but still drove to work. after about two hours at work he collapsed with a massive heart attack & never survived. the post mortem showed the sprained ankle tuned out to be a big blood clot that travelled up to his heart & had he gone to the hospital there would of  more than likely spotted the problem .

Friend of mine dropped dead (literally) age 40 from a heart attack.

According to his wife he was dead before he hit the floor.

Having said that he was prone to indulge in anything and everything, and never in moderation. ::)

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm is another 'dead before you hit the ground' way to meet your maker.

No warning, no symptoms, just bang and lights out.

One of the best Officers I've ever worked with took early retirement about 5 years ago, ex SAS and superfit he was also our control & restraint instructor and a real force to be reckoned with, went to the gym about 3 weeks ago and dropped dead whilst there, damn shame.

Having seen friends and family members linger on with some horrible symptoms, that has some appeal.

Agreed. My Mum went at 68, but it was just like a light being switched off.
Dad had a stroke a year later but lingered for another 13 years in misery, with Dementia ruining his dignity in the last two ir three years.
If we watched a Dog suffer like that we would get done for cruelty.

I hope my demise is quick......following which I  enjoy the best sleep ever until the end of time. :y

However, Mrs Opti insists I won't have time to sleep because I'll be burning in the fires of hell for all eternity. ;D ;D

Must have been one hell of a shock to the lads, something as innocent as this taking his life.  :(

I'm still going through that Albs so I sympathise, although in my case it's with both parents at the same time. I watch them being spoon fed by carers each day, and cleaned up in the same manner as an infant. The only part of their body that works now is their neck, which allows them to turn their head to look at me with a blank expression. After almost four years of dealing with it, it almost broke me. It still could, as it's still ongoing. As you say, you wouldn't treat a dog like that.

I really do sympathise. Its utterly heartbreaking to see our loved ones decline like that. The end is a blessed release for them when it comes. It shouldnt have to be like that.  :'( :'(
Dementia is a hateful bastard of a disease. >:(
My Dad was a strong proud dignified man. He was a Member of the (in)famous RUC B-specials when he was younger.
To see him become an empty shell of a man with no dignity was a soul crushing thing to experience.  :(
I have very strong reservations about assisted dying, but when they get to that point where there really is no hope, no dignity and no reason to wake up in the morning it should be allowed under very strict rules imo.

Yep....been through this.

When they finally die you feel relief that it is finally over. Then you feel guilty for feeling that way. :-\

I'm told this is normal.

Mrs Opti had this dilemma with her Mum.

There was no hope for a recovery so the hospital removed all access to food and water.

We thought the end may take a few hours, a day at most.

It took eight and a half days with all manner of noise and thrashing about like something out of Dickens. We asked for more medication to calm her but they refused.

She died on Christmas day.

It could have been handled so much better but the hospitals are worried about litigation. :-X

Try to enjoy yourself while you can and make as many people happy as you can whilst doing this as nobody knows when their time is up.
