Complete dash removal

I need to possibly remove the dash wiring loom , inc fusepanel and whatever goes through the scuttle to the engine bay etc

How much of a world of pain is this task and any tips appreciated ?

Steering wheel off.
Strip the scuttle. Bonnet off will help access later.
Strip the centre console, carpets, kick panels, lower dash panels and a pillar trim.
Unplug the wiring at the at the a pillar bases.
Strip central dash panel.
Strip the steering column.
Cluster, glove boxes and air vents out.
Undo and remove all the bolts you can see and lift the dash out.
Heater box out with fan.
Unclip all the wiring as you go and feed the engine bay side back into the car... Should be one engine ecu plug and two of the round plugs. There's also a connector underneath the battery.

Might also be a bunch of wiring on the drivers side, some of which will involve stripping the wheel arches and bumper.

Obviously how much you strip off depends on what is required and on the car spec...
But work on the basis that the the loom went into the car after paint and before everything else and you'll be fine. And cutting stuff rather than taking time to carefully remove it probably won't be well received.

And if you are going to put everything back together I would suggest to replace the heater element.

Had a look at this and decided I would rather gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon than take it out, thanks for the responses chaps  :y

What was the fault that made you consider it?


Taking it out is the 'easy' bit, putting it all back so everything fits/works/doesn't fall off/creak is the tricky part.


Jan was right about the heater matrix.

As DG said, I think it was a request for a part from a customer, so wouldn't be going back together.

Its one of the few things I won't entertain doing myself. I asked my tame guru to change the matrix for me for this reason. Best money I've spent in a long time...

you don't need to remove the dash to change the spark plugs  ;)
just half the engine  ;D

DG is right it was a parts request, X20XEV engine going to someone wanting to do a transplant into a corsa ( God knows why  :o) guy was asking for the full loom to use the immobiliser but has now found a bypass solution.

As a Corsa probably already has those and an engine ECU, all of which will be similar to Omega ones, your customer is making things really difficult....

I think he has seen the light and will be dong something similar, I haven't broken a 2.0 before and was surprised by the enquiries for the engine and it's loom, I assume this engine is the poor mans redtop but they are unobtainable these days I believe

Similar power, if not quite as tuneable, and cheaper than the Z20LET or the current turbo four bangers... Not to mention alot less work than trying to stuff a V6 in the gap ;)
