Just bought a Harmon Kardon Drive & play. Only bought it as it was the only one I could see that let the ipod be hidden away during use.

To be honest, the sound without it being plugged into the ariel ain't great, but connected to the ariel connector its alot better.

I have two (very picky) gripes with it though. I've changed the dash to blue leds. the HK button lights up blue, but the screen is white :(
And the size of the control button.

My handy tip of the day. If you fit one of these, remove the trafficmaster button & fit the controller over the hole. Drill two holes either side of the existing hole to mount the controller. if you take it back out, the traffic master button should hide the screw holes

I agree with TB.
Had 6 CD'r s in the stack since I bought the mig & theres only been once that its refused to play them. As TB said overnight in the warmth cured the condensation issue

A great place for the gps mouse.
Double sided tape it to the underside of the middle seatbelt cover on the parcel shelf. Keep it far enough back to miss the seatbelt & put the double sided onto the top of the ariel ( the non metal side)

Works a treat, gets full view, its hidden and you only need to run the cable into the boot corner

could be one of your rear sidelight bulbs m8
there are two on each side.
If one goes, they still look normal

I've seen pictures of the ariel connection cable tied to the cage. But the easiest way I found was put the stereo in the cage, connect the ariel plug & then slide the whole assembly back into the dash. Takes a bit of brute force but works a treat

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Fitting the carin sat nav
« on: 08 May 2008, 09:37:41 »
Just bought a carin sat nav off fleabay for the mig.
Had a look a jules how2, but got a few questions.

The wiring loom in the kit is a single one piece loom that looks like it will struggle to reach front to back. Is this the right loom or is there extensions missing from my kit??

It also has a spare red wire coming off it with a spade connector on it. Any ideas where this goes?

Also WITHOUT GETTING INTO A COPYRIGHT DISCUSSION I have no discs with the system. On the back it has 22SY581. Is there a current software I need to update and what maps disc do I need??

Thanks as always guys
Colin

Have a search on ebay for aceparts
They do an omega kit
Costs a bit more, about 20 quid, but thats the complete set for your dials & heater controls & stereo display.
They are the only ones I've seen that the stereo display is visibe in the daylight

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: how to remove alternator?
« on: 29 April 2008, 21:37:58 »
Had mine off at the weekend.
As Jay said E14's on one side, I believe mine had 5/8" on the other side.
Disconnect the battery
Remove the aux belt( in the how2's)
Remove the torx bolts ( a bit easier from underneath)
wiggle it like mad to release it. a long flat screwdriver was handy to help move it
disconnect the cables.

I think the torque for the bolts to reassemble was 30nm
hope this helps

Switch the ignition on, the light on the nokia button should flash. set the fone to scan for bluetooth devices & it should find ck7w. when it does, connect then add as authorised in the fone menu, that way it will always connect

Easy enough job tut

Remove the stereo, the screw behind, the ashtray & the two screws behind that.
feel up through the stereo hole, find the metal bar & pull down. That releases the top of the panel. If I remember from mine, there is 4-5 bulbs

I'm sure theres a how to somewhere

I've started to change mine
I bought the set from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ACEparts-Performance-Lighting

The display ones are clearly visible during the day

Is there any way to connect the ariel lead on the drive & play to the vehicle ariel lead instead of behind the stereo?

Last time it was a pain as the HK plug won't lock into the cage like the VX plug does.
I seem to remember there is another ariel connection, possibly in the kick panels which uses different style connections. Can adaptors be bought for this??
