20/50 oil

is this stuff ok to use on a few quick oil changes ?
got a couple of sticky lifters and i want to clean the cr*p out of the engine  :y
the current oil ( 10/40 ) has only done a few hundred miles and looks like sh*t already  >:(
500 miles ish of gentle running ( town / short motorway ) between changes  :y
i've not got a trade card yet  :(
