I hate my Omega!
« on: 06 January 2010, 21:06:08 »

...because I want a new car and I just can't bring myself to sell it!. I'm travelling less than 15 miles a day and she's barely stretched her legs before I'm at work. I just need a little run about, I know that, something like my wife's Punto speedgear (She does even less miles than me) but I get in the Miggy and...

Trouble is, I've done so much to her (See,I'm calling the bloody thing her!) in the last 6 months that even CruisetoPoland would be proud:
New engine (55k)
New cambelt, tensioner, water pump, auxilliary belt, belt tensioner
New battery,
4 new tyres
New rear pads,
New AC condensor,
Rear arches professionally repaired
2 new front wheel bearings,
4x new tyres,
2 new wishbones
2 drop links
Steering arm idler
Tracking done,
New DIS
New EGR
New plugs
New TPS
New HBV
Towbar fitted
Genuine Vaux roof bars
Sat nav fitted

Its got full leather, leccy sunroof, cruise, dual zone. Ignoring all the labout, she stands me at about £700 now including tax and the purchase price. When I get in her, I feel a sense of achievement and she's smooth and powerful.

The ABS ECU has now started giving me jip and I still need to sort out the Diff seals. I just can't decide what to do. I do know I'd be sad to see her go if I do sell.

I have a longer list nearly double and double cost of the car in time I bought(7500 £ serious) and also discovered that whatever car I buy if keep enough will cost again ..   imho if tax and mot costs are not hurting your budget keep it .. anyway you wont get much when you sell.. :-/

Trouble is that its not really getting a chance to warm. I would walk it but A, there are no pathed routes out of Irthlingborough (Lots of deaths caused by people walking in the road here) secondly,I carry 1-2 piles of school books plus a laptop etc. I'm only really seeing 20mpg,if that at the mo.Its fine on a long run but on balance, I am paying high tax, insurance etc which I just don't need.I have a 5.7l Chevy in the garage for fun,so really its just a money pit. Its a shame, cos I do love it.

I hate my miggy because it hasn'tn started for 2 months. Because of this and that I haven't been able to get it looked at and it's bound to be something expensive  :(

Thinking ahead though; when you leave school and get a job you might need to travel further to work.  ;)

I had my Miggy almost from new, and did just over 100,000 miles in her before handing on to James for safe keeping. :)

In that time it only needed:

One Differential oil seal
One offside headlamp assembly (xenon)
One windscreen owing to a stress crack
One loudspeaker
One o/s passenger door (corroded)
(All of the above under guarantee)

One battery
One auxilliary drive belt tensioner
One A/C Condenser
One alloy wheel, which was NOT bent as claimed!  >:(
One pair of rear coil springs
One set of rear disks
One set of locking wheel nuts after Kwik Fit mashed them
Two sets of Pirelli P6000's
Numerous sets of front disks and pads and Cam Belts

I reckon that's pretty good for a car with so much equipment. I just hope my new car does as well, but somehow I doubt it.

Threads like this interest me.

No mention of mileage when bought.
No mention of anual mileage.
Certainly no mention of driving habits.

I know TB has had 4000 miles from a set of Avon tyres in the past, now was that a badly set up car, a set of faulty tyres, or was he practiceing to be captain of the OOF drift team.

A lot of members complain of poor mpg and then go on to admit they have a heavy right foot, this will also explain high tyre wear and brake wear.

Now take factors like the above into account, plus lots more and then apply it to the previous owner of the car, you may well have bought a mint car that has been valeted weekly, but driven like every mile was for a new lap record.

You have to take into account that all car parts have a servicable life, and will start to cast more to keep on the road from 80 to 100k onwards.

Of course as you say, you could be plain unlucky and get a bad one.  :-/

You've misunderstood my thread.I do really like the car.I am not moaning about what I've spent on it.I still think its an amazing value for money car. I knew what it was when I bought it and have more than enjoyed working on it. I bought it to lug large loads long distances but ended up getting a job locally and no longer need what it has to offer. True,I could keep running it as is but to give you some idea,I used my Miggy for a week and put £25 in.I used my wife's punto (Which is actually pretty quick and ended up putting a shade under a tenner in it for doing the same runs. That alone is a £780 a year saving. factor is the insurance difference of £200 less for me and the tax difference and it makes sense to get something smaller. Were I using the car for what it was intended, then I'd keep it.
