My 2.6 manual does about 26mpg around town.
About 32-33mpg on a long run.
These figures are far better than Mr Dusty achieves,in the same car. :-* :-* :-*

Thank you all for your help

I think I can disconnect it either by myself or get Mr Dusty to do it

One last thing if the power sounder is disconnected does that mean that the alarm won't work. Not that I am bothered

Thanks Dusty :-* :-* :-*

Sounds like the batteries in the power sounder are dying :(

Just unplug it :y

Thanks for that.

What is a power sounder and how do I unplug it?

Omega General Help / Alarm Problem
« on: 16 February 2009, 12:20:47 »
Can somebody help me with an alarm problem on my 2.6 Omega CD

Whilst driving along the other day we could hear an alarm, although it was not the sound of the horn and the hazard flashers were not coming on.

It did it again this morning whilst it was parked outside. I opened the door the alarm kept going. I started the engine and the alarm still kept going.

I am at a loss to know what this is, as the sound it makes is not connected to the horn of the car, but it does come from within the bonnet.

Any one help please chaps?

Thanks

Dusty :-* :-* :-*

Have a read here ....

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1189022687

it explains what is mean't by "reading the codes" , "paperclip test" and "pedal trick"...  you should then be able to tell us the info ..  :y :y :y

HTH

Yes thanks for that. I have just sent Mr Dusty out in the cold, to try the pedal trick. He says the car with the spanner through it, flashes continuously.

Which seems to be no codes. What does this mean? And does it help me with my initial problem?

being a 2.6 you can't paper clip it.

You can buy "cheapo tech2" kits off ebay, which run off a laptop, it comes with a cable to which connects underneath the steering column.

This will read the error codes stored on the engine ECU.

I strongly suspect crank sensor, when was it last changed?

Not sure if it has ever been changed or not.The car is 2001

Is a tech 2 or crank sensor expensive. :-* :-*

With any V6 not starting my first point of call would be the crank sensor, got a code reader?[/quote]

I have absolutely no idea what a code reader is ...please explain :-*

Had an odd problem today.

Started up my 2.6 miggy. Idles for a couple of seconds, then there was an audible "ping" (from where I don't know), then the engine cuts out and will not start again, depsite the battery turning over the engine quickly.

Took the key out tried again, and then it started as usual. There was also the audible "ping" again.

Tried it a couple of times after that and all seems fine.

Does anyone know the cause of this, is it something to do with the key/recognition/immobiliser?

Thanks Dusty  :-* :-*

Probably dodgy battery - could be duff alternator though.  Check voltage across battery with engine running @ 2000 rpm.

Sorry I don't know how many volts I should get and how would I test it?

Thanks :-*

Flat battery on my miggy yesterday.

Charged it up from completely flat to full charge in about 40 minutes.Everything then O.K .car starts first time. Then.....

Flat battery on my miggy today and yes you guessed it flat to fully charged in about 40 minutes or so.

As the battery charges so quickly is the fault likely to be the battery itself or something causing it to go flat so quickly.

Any ideas

Thanks  Dusty. :-* :-*

Have noticed lately from time to time, that the radio in my miggy crackles, interrupting reception.

I've now realised, that it only ever happens when the heated rear screen is on to clear off the mist.

Can anybody tell me why, and what I can do about it?

Also has it happened to you?

Thanks
Dusty  :-* :-*

If its a saloon the heating element in rear screen is the radio aerial - will affect poor reception stations if covered in moisture.   Is it ok with htd rear screen on with window dry?
Have only noticed it recently with this damp weather we keep getting. :-*

2.6 or 2.5(as per your profile)?????

V6 idle should be 500rpm normal or 600rpm with air-con on.

2.5 will be idle control valve.
2.6, try and clean out the breather pipes etc........there is a how to in the maintenance section.
Thanks for that.I will take a look in the maintainance section. :-*

Omega General Help / Tickover seems too low.
« on: 06 September 2008, 20:18:12 »
When I start up my 2.6 Omega from cold, the tickover settles on about 700-800 revs, but when it is fully warm, the tickover drops below 500 revs, and is now occassionally cutting out on me.

This seems too low to me. Any ideas?
