Omega General Help / cam sensor on 2.2
« on: 22 August 2008, 12:19:19 »
I have had fault codes read recently as car was starting to play up a bit. It has identified cam sensor. I have ordered one and was wondering whether they are easy to replace or is it a garage job.

Thanks :)

Omega General Help / code reader advise
« on: 04 May 2008, 22:20:50 »
Can anyone recommend a decent code reader to buy that is easy to use and can read and reset codes. I had to go to the Stealers with a misfire and EML showing. Nearly two hours later, two very bored children and £107 worse off they had replaced my spark plugs. If I had had a code reader it would have cost me £12.

Can you help?

Omega General Help / Rusty spark plugs
« on: 05 May 2008, 08:20:11 »
I replaced my cars spark plugs about 2000 miles ago. Recently had a misfire and the stealers diagnosed plug failure on No 2 cylinder. They replaced all plugs, but I noticed the ones they had removed were rusty.

I am not loosing any coolant so presume water is getting in there when it rains. Is the scuttle on the 2.2 a design fault or am I looking at the wrong thing?

Has anybody had the same problem and found a cure?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Could this be Crank sensor?
« on: 26 April 2008, 14:27:51 »
Could anybody help with just a little information. Wife drove car into town this morning and it started running rough.
This was very noticeable at tick-over, but seemed to get better when revved. Back on the drive it is running allot rougher than usual and when gears are selected and the revs drop it gets worse. The engine light has illuminated and stays on.

No fault codes as I do not have a reader.

Has anybody experienced a similar problem? Reading posts over the year I vaguely remember crank sensor having this effect.

Thanks for any help.

Omega General Help / Throttle position sensor
« on: 04 February 2008, 20:45:44 »
Been having a fault light come on recently and so had a tech ii readout done. Identified voltage problem with TPS. The car still runs OK so asked them to reset and see what happened. After a week EML is coming on again.
If this is confirmed as a TPS should I buy one or can they be cleaned/repaired.
Where abouts are they on the 2.2 engine.
Thanks for any help. :)

Omega General Help / Engine management light
« on: 01 January 2008, 17:52:22 »
The orange light with the car and spanner is regularly coming on when I am driving the car. When I stop and switch off the engine, it seems to reset and then doe's not come on again for a little while. There seems to be nothing wrong with the car when driving it.

Will the management system be storing fault codes everytime this comes on and would it be advisable to get this checked by Tech 2?

Or as long as it resets each time should I just keep driving the car and not worry.  :D

Thanks

Omega General Help / New Omega question
« on: 01 December 2007, 15:12:45 »
Not been on for a while due to a number of mishaps. The final straw coming with my beloved estate being totalled in a recent crash. Anyway, looking for new Omega and have come across a 2003 2.2 16v sport estate. Can't remember seeing or reading much about a sport model. Seems to lie between a GLS and a CD. Does anybody know if these are OK and what, if any issues I should be aware of.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Hissing sound
« on: 12 August 2007, 20:33:07 »
Has anybody eperienced this before? Over the last 6 months my 2.0 ltr non air-con omega has been hissing from the internal air directional control knobs. Started with just one position giving the noise (sounds like air leak).

Now all positions but one give the hissing noise. I presume it will be some control valve that uses vacuum from the engine.

Is this likely to be easy to fix?

Thanks for your help.

Omega General Help / Autovaux concern
« on: 09 August 2007, 11:47:46 »
Any of you had problems with this company before. I recently used them and will never do so again. They sent me a aux belt which was too small. It took two weeks to get that replaced. I also borrowed a cam locking kit. Four weeks later I am now having to get my visa company to try and get my £100 deposit back. Not good.  :(

Omega General Help / water drips
« on: 07 August 2007, 23:24:09 »
Could anybody tell me if it is usual for water to drip from under the car. Had a look and it is coming from to black overflow pipes either side of prop shaft.

Are these for the climate control, just getting rid of condensation in the car? I only ask as the other week there seemed to be a lot of water dripping from them.

Thanks  :D

Omega General Help / Nasty knocking from engine
« on: 14 July 2007, 22:56:03 »
The rattle recently experienced from the camshafts has taken a turn for the worst. Whilst giving it some welly this evening the engine started to knock loudly. Managed to get it home but does'nt sound good.

Any ideas what this might be.

The cambelt was changed recently. Could this sound be caused if it has slipped a couple of teeth.

I didn't notice an engine light whilst it was doing it.

Only other thing I can think I have done recently is spray some WD40 around the crank sensor to clean off some spilt oil.

Any help appreciated.

Omega General Help / Sensor-question?
« on: 12 July 2007, 12:46:55 »
I read alot about crank sensor's and cam sensor's and knock sensor's. Is there any where on the site that explains what they all do and what effects may be experienced if one of them goes.

Omega General Help / Question-rattle from camshafts
« on: 12 July 2007, 12:36:18 »
I posted some time ago about noisy cam followers (I think). Took advice from forum and stuck in some Wynns and new oil and filter. It is still noisy after couple of hundred miles.

How long would it normally take to quiet down the camshaft noise.

I plan to do one more oil change after 500. Should this sort it, and if not what else is it likely to be.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Tie rod removal
« on: 05 July 2007, 18:53:10 »
I am trying to replace nearside tie rod end. Thought I'd be kind and buy a ball joint remover rather than wacking it with a hammer. The one I have bought is crap and will not budge it. I have drenched it in duck oil to no avail.

I have read the maintanence guide and noticed a better style of puller in use.

Is there a nack to getting these off, or is it down to having the right tool.

Thanks.
