Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Interior Light Problem
« on: 24 October 2007, 20:09:11 »
So, this weekend I took on the Hilper Boot Release project. All went well and the boot now opens whenever I want it to. The only problem is that the interior light now only goes off on the timer not on the switch.

To explain a bit better. When you pull the headlamp switch the interior light comes on and should go off when you push it back in again, but it doesn't. It does go off after about 10 seconds but this is annoying. Why should this be the case? Is the interior light switch connected to the wire you have to cut for the boot release mod?

I am a bit lost with this. Anyone got any ideas?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Stereo Wiring Help Needed
« on: 22 July 2007, 13:51:59 »
I've broken the stereo on the rolling road block, AKA the caravan. It looks like I've pulled the power and earth cable out of the back. The previous owner has cobbled something together see pics.

So, the question is, which is the earth and which is the live?

I'm sat here scratching my head and I'm dead if I can't get the radio fixed before we go away next weekend. So this really is a mission of mercy :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Poor LW and MW Reception
« on: 11 June 2007, 15:49:42 »
Has anyone come across this problem? I get very poor MW and LW reception when the engine is running. When the ignition is swithched off there is no problem. I appreciate that I am in a poor reception area here in Cornwall and things are much better further up country but it still seems a bit odd that I can get virtually perfect reception when stationary with the engine not running but can't hear a thing when the engine is started.

Omega General Help / Wishbones?
« on: 10 May 2008, 19:32:13 »
I've had a loud knocking/creaking from the front offside suspension, when I really stamp on the brakes, for the last few weeks now. It's got progressively worse so I changed the drop links today hoping that that would solve the problem. It hasn't  :'(

I'm guessing that it must therefore be the wishbones? Would anyone concur with this diagnosis or perhaps give any other suggestions before I change the wishbones?

Omega General Help / Rear Door Check Straps
« on: 06 January 2008, 00:59:31 »
Are the bushes for the rear door check straps the same as the front doors?

If so is fitting as easy as for the fronts?

One of my rear doors is getting rather noisy when opening and closing and I would like to sort asap.

Thanks in advance.

Omega General Help / How Do You Remove The Front Bumper?
« on: 12 December 2007, 10:04:27 »
I have just bought a new front bumper off Ebay for my 2001 Facelift CD.

I will need to get it sprayed the right colour but need to know how to remove the old bumper. I guess that several of you have done this at some time or another so any tips/help would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps one of the Mods' could add the following info to this maintenance guide?

The recommended torque setting for the crank case breather tube is 25 Nm and the gasket part number is 90500571. This is a metal gasket and the bead on the gasket must point upwards to the crankcase ventilation flange.

The part number for the throttle body gasket is 90543950.

Hope this is of help to someone.

Omega General Help / To seal or not to seal?
« on: 18 July 2007, 21:50:59 »
That is the question.

I am going to clean my throttle body and breathers on the weekend as per the maintenance guide. Definately, no excuses rain or shine. I've even ordered the gaskets from Vx dealer today and they will be in on Friday.

The real question is should I use gasket seal on the new gaskets and if so what should I use? Also the recommended torque setting of 9nm for the throttle body doesn't seem very tight and my new torque wrench doesn't go that low. Could I just tighten it carefully and hope for the best?

OK thats two questions :y

Omega General Help / What does this mean?
« on: 30 June 2007, 13:50:28 »
I have just received one of those maintenance manuals adverised on EBay.

Anyway, there are also a lot of step by step maintenance guides in the programme with tech drawings to show you what to do. I was going to clean out my throttle body and breathers, when the rain goes away but the first thing the guide said was:

"Throttle Body, Remove and Install (Y 22 XE, Z 22 XE)

Note:   When removing and installing or replacing the throttle body it is absolutely essential that the adaptation values for the throttle valve in the EE PROM of the engine control unit are deleted using TECH 2".

What does this mean? If I go ahead with this job will I end up with other problems?

It also says this:

"Note:   For engines with throttle valve module (electronic accelerator pedal) it is necessary after replacing the throttle valve module (electronic accelerator pedal) to reprogram it. To do this, switch on the ignition and wait for a minimum period of 10 seconds. During the waiting period, the engine must not be started because this will interrupt the programming operation."

Once again, any ideas??

Omega General Help / Tech2 Capability in Corwall
« on: 09 June 2007, 23:22:45 »
I am going to install cruise control in my 2001 2.2CD and understand from another post that this is quite easy to do.

I have managed to find the correct indicator stalk, with the controls, but need to find someone who can turn this on in the ECU.

Does anyone know if there is anyone, other than the VX dealer, in Cornwall who has the kit and the knowhow. If not what do I need to ask the dealer to do?

Newbie Welcome Area / What A Friendly Place
« on: 07 June 2007, 21:17:51 »
Hi everybody

What a friendly place this looks to be.

Like most people, I never register for forums or chat rooms or anything else on the web but this site community looks really welcoming and all of the posts I have read seem to be from really caring people who want to help each other out. I suppose it's because everyone is so pleased that they drive on of the best kept secrets on the road.

I'm sure I'll be back soon as I've recently decided to do more work on the car myself.

Meetings, gatherings, parties etc / Cornwall Meet End Of May
« on: 03 February 2008, 19:23:55 »
I've been down to Court Farm today and checked availability with Bill Truscott who is the owner.

He has 20 pitches available for the weekend of 30th May to 1st June. Bank Holiday weekend is already booked.  :(

The tarrif price is £11 per night per pitch with all facilities included. i.e. toilets, showers, washing facilities. Electric hookups are also available and are priced at £2 per night. Bill has promised me a discount off these prices. As soon as I have an idea of the numbers who might be interested, I will book the required number of pitches.

I propose that we use the same procedure for this as we did for the Newent meet. That is, you pay with the site direct quoting me as the contact. That way, I'm not handling any cash and I don't have to risk any of my own cash for those who say they are coming and then are unable to make it.

Post here if you are coming or want more info. I will answer any questions you may have.

Meetings, gatherings, parties etc / Cornwall When It's Warmer Meet
« on: 05 December 2007, 22:18:14 »
There appears to be a bit of interest, even though it's too far, for a meet here in Cornwall in the new year.

Hopefully a cambelt party would be a good idea at the same time. The cars could be done at my work where we have a large yard and room for at least 4 cars inside if the weather wasn't so good.

There are good beaches nearby for the families if they felt like it.

Court Farm is in my village and the owner is a friend of mine so I may be able to negotiate a decent rate (Although he is a Cornish farmer so don't hold your breath). He also has a couple of large barns which we may be able to use for cars. They are usually used to store caravans in the winter as well as winter feed for the sheep.

Very early days at the moment so an indication of interest would not be taken as a commitment to attend at this stage.

For your information, there is now motorway and dual carriageway all the way to St Austell and it is only about 80 miles from Exeter, so about 30 minutes for some of you.  ;D
