I saw a lot of Mercs on recovery trucks today. I know the SAM on Smarts is prone to water ingress from rain, does it impact other Mercs?

Also saw 7 or 8 Prius' on recovery trucks as well
On the S the front one is pretty well protected, rear is behind the rear backrest so if that gets wet you've bigger problems, but get any water through the cabin intake and it WILL find it's way into the floor which is where almost all the Canbus connections are.

As far as I know, we've not had any real flooding along the M40 route beyond the usual flood plane fields like where YZ250 lives, so wasn't thinking that they had been submerged, but did have some proper rain for about 1.5hrs yesterday early morning.

Of course, it could be they had all come from elsewhere and were still in the process of being relayed back somewhere, which is something I hadn't considered until now.

It was notable that virtually all of them were Toyota Prius and Merc saloons (A, C, E/S).  Oh, and a single obligitory Disco3 ;D

Discovered that the air struts on the zaf tailgate have gone lazy. I discovered this by parking the car on a dark street and using the very top of my forehead to find the tailgate lip - at speed. >:(

So this morning i contemplated buying a gallon of petrol and some matches. But settled on some replacement struts, which were nearly the same price.

When taking the dog out, I used to park my Astra estate on uneven ground. If I got it so that there was a hump just behind the car, I'd stand up after putting the dog in, see stars and come round with a large lump on the back of my head  ;D

I had last week problems in MOT as left rear spring of Daughter's Astra J was broken, changed both rears today, next project is change of Water Pump (1.6 Benzin), perhaps someone could advice whether it could be chanced without removing the right front wheel. There seems to be enouh space for that.

enough space on the older 1.6 petrol lumps (Z16XEP ) but getting to the belt tensioner is easier with wheel and liner off  .not sure about newer models sorry , though taking a wheel off and the liner won't take long  :)

.that said , i just replace water pumps with the timing belt ,while it's all apart ,despite it not being timing belt driven on either 1.6 petrol or 1.7 dirty diesel Z17DTH ,new coolant ,aux belt and grease the aux belt tensioner bearing ,

the skin does grow back on your knuckles eventually  :P

Took the Omega CD for an MOT test - it had been off the road since last Spring. I thought it may have advisories for rusty brake discs, but it was a pass with only advisory on greasy brake pipe. Result, hopefully it might see its 25th birthday still on the road.

Sent back another ECU because the sellers presumed, wrongly, that an equivalent part number would work just fine. rather deckheads. You'd have thought that a specialist breaker would appreciate that. Still, to their credit, they've accepted the return.

Alternative sourced from a car known to be appropriately optioned.
