Hi, Im new to this but here goes, I have 2.6 v6 CD 2001, its developed a misfire on 1,3,5 and the cat on driver side is glowing red? im guessing its related? ordered a new coil pack for driver side £79.98 Bosh brand new from GSF.
But will i need a new CAT?

hopefully not,fit the new dis pack then see if you get engine warning light coming on...

whilst you have the dis pack out check for oil in plug wells,and change plugs if they havnt been done for a long time

You won't know till you sort out the miss fire. It could of melted you were pretty lucky really my old Carlton did a similar thing and it was a job for the fire brigade. When it's cold give it a firm tap with a rubber mallet see if it rattles

problem is your lamba sensor had that before on a megane-someone replaced sensor but did wires wrong-you could see cat heat up!!!

Something else amiss it seems to me. A straightforward misfire causes the ecu to shut down that cylinders fuel supply, which saves the cylinder from bore wash and the cats from unburnt fuel.

What are the fault codes via pedal trick? Or even better via a live data capable code reader so the lambda activity can be analized....?

Seem similar when the plenum o-rings are shafted, and it runs stupidly lean...
