General Car Chat / How can this be
« on: 19 October 2018, 22:02:06 »
Yesterday whilst outside working on the elite I noticed a Dvla clamper man putting one on a valeters van parked on the corner of the road. Out of interest I looked up the reg. on the net and it was mote'd on 9/10/18 but it said not taxed (not sorn'd) and get this, was last taxed till April 2017. Surely it should have flagged up before now and had a fine issued.

Omega General Help / Short nose vs long
« on: 12 September 2018, 17:42:35 »
I've noticed my '95 elite 3.0 has a short nose plenum and I think the later ones have long nose versions. Apart from the obvious what's the difference.

the sharp eyed amongst you may notice my unusual bonnet release and the more obvious colour coded pre-facelift mirrors courtesy of Lidl rim spray paint and lacquer  ;D
and you can use your original headlamps and hockey stick mouldings if you choose too. :y

Omega General Help / rapid tyre wear
« on: 09 July 2018, 10:35:48 »
I know our cars will eat tyres if the the geometry is not correct but does less than 4 months and 500 miles seem right for this  >:(

also noted what may be an age crack which might have contributed (tyre past it's best?)

and since shortly after MOT (hence mileage/time frame known) was done the abs fault occurred and as this also effects the steering could that accelerate the process.

As far I can tell this was filmed recently, what a shame these cars can't be made available again.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / air con fault finding
« on: 07 June 2018, 10:37:02 »
Apologies if there is a gude but have searched and couldn't find it.
Trying to sort the air con on my '97 v6 Tourer when I press the snowflake button I get a quiet whirring sound from in the dash (like 1st speed on main fan switch) but the yellow tell tale doesn't light up.There's no sign of life from the compressor and the air recirc works fine.It probably needs gassing up at least and if it does have no pressure in the system will that prevent the compressor from operating.

Thanks John

Omega General Help / coil pack?
« on: 11 May 2018, 16:07:47 »
investigating the cause of a misfire on the 2.5 v6 which only happens when the engine has reached operating temp (from cold drives smooth for a few miles).
after much swearing and skinned knuckles (1/4 drive deep e10 socket is essential) removed the coil pack to find this...

as you can see no.4 top right is full of green gunk so my question is will this have been caused by a poor connection of the plug lead/water ingress and if so can I clean this up and refit it or is it a faulty coil pack that needs replacing?
Cheers John.
