Possible immobiliser fault?

Is there any way to completely disconnect the immobiliser on the Elite.....got a strange feeling that it's draining the battery down, power sounder was removed a few years back.....BTW electrickery is not high on my skill set. ::)

There shouldn't be a drain on the immobiliser circuit, it's basically a loop from the engine ECU to the transponder ring iirc.

Disabling it isn't quite as straightforward as simply unplugging it though.

 Ahh! you mean hitting it with the biggest hammer in the box ;) but did the next thing....fitted a battery isolator, that'll do for the winter as the cars don't get used much. Thanks for the explanation Al :y

Disconnecting is certainly the most effective way of stopping battery drains. ;)

Just be sure that the key operates the drivers door lock before you turn the power off and be sure to use the lock periodically to stop it seizing up :y

Thanks, I've fitted battery isolators to all three now, just because of the lack of use and the coming winter weather. Also all  the batteries  are now fitted with  C-Tek connectors which makes keeping them charged that much easier.

Post 1995 models have an integrated immobiliser that can't easily be removed - it needs programming out of the ECU.

Why do you think its the immobiliser, and not, say, the consumer relay (reasonably common fault on Omegas)

 Worth investigation, I guess there must be access to the relay.....but as I say electrickery is not a strong point, so didn't fancy chasing my tail. I'm guessing the relay location is in the under bonnet fuse box?

Under the dash iirc, but buried in the loom on an A pillar rather than under the steering column...

I want to say passenger side :-\

Think it's further up than that :-\

There's not a guide for it surprisingly, but I think Kevin's Charging guide includes how to test for consumer relay function...
