Omega General Help / Sparkplug Tightening Torque
« on: 07 September 2010, 13:40:20 »
Hello folks.

I was carrying out the annual omega service yesterday on my Dad's MV6. Typically on omega's i always tightened the plugs by hand but this time i got a snap on torque wrench to do the job properly on the 25NM torque.
It didn't feel right tightening the plugs to that torque it felt like there was a bit of give from the threads. Is that normal? is that the washer squashing or was the torque damaging the threads??
Any advice will be much appreciated.

Anyway my main question is, How can i make sure i don't screw the relationship between steering wheel and wheel position? Is there any mathod?

i did some search on the net and i can see that this is the same number for the 3lt cars.

Omega General Help / Oh Yes!
« on: 22 November 2006, 11:45:31 »
It happened, the drivers door is completely jammed and refuse to lock. Problem is that by the time i go home it is dark and cold, Also i cannot use my garage at the moment as it is stuffed with tools i need for my flooring/decorating. The resault is that the car is now sitting unlocked in the driveway. Things like that make me have visions of me and a machine gun shooting this car until it looks like a pasta strainer. :(. Superb quality of german electrics of a 6year old car, i'm impressed!

Omega General Help / At last the annoying noise is fixed
« on: 13 November 2006, 00:54:30 »
Some of you might remember my post last year about the noise that was coming from the back of the car on drivers side. It drove me crazy for few weeks and then it stopped. Last week it came back to test my temper. Today after spending about 1 hour trying to figure out what the hell was wrong and after making a big scratch on my forearm i managed to fix it. What was it. An armor-all screen wipes plastic cylindrical box which was located betwen the internal and external quarter panel between the rear door and wheel arch. Who the hell has thrown this there i don't know. I'm happy at last to have that sorted.

Omega General Help / Not again
« on: 13 October 2006, 09:15:18 »
47GBP and three months later the rear passenger door mould is screwed again. Should i take the car to vauxhall dealer and tell them to replace it? I think there is 12 month warranty with these things. I'm starting to believe that they are out of drawing spec these items thats why they interfere. Or should i just pick up a slegde hammer and redecorate the whole car. I'm so pissed off right now. >:(

Omega General Help / Question regarding lifters
« on: 23 September 2006, 20:36:40 »
Hi guys,
i remember in previous post that the GeffV6man was saying that 2 different types of lifters had been used on the V6's. He also said that if somebody would want to change to a different type then he would have to change the T vents as well. My question is what are the T vents?

Omega General Help / Problems!!!
« on: 11 September 2006, 15:02:11 »
HEllo all,
after a 2 year trouble free ownership(durability test) and about 28k later (139.500) the common exhaust leak is now a fact, and annoys me in every start. Also the lifters have started being slightly noisy, it sounds like one lifter is knackered, The secondary air injection is working correctly only when it wants to making the engine sound like a bag of spanners on cold starts every now and again, so i will probably blank it off. Tappets will be changed also  shortly to accompany the 3 liter cams. I'm a bit dissapointed though from the noisy lifter issue as i have been changeing oil and filter every 3-4k and even this didn't prevent them from wearing.

Omega General Help / Fuel filter mistery!
« on: 16 July 2006, 06:06:16 »
I gave a full service to my car a few days ago and i decided that it would be a good idea to replace the fuel filter again as it had covered 18k miles in 20 months. So i got under the car and i was freightened from what i saw, the 20month old filter covered in more rust than the titanic. My attempts to remove it made me feel useless and the same luck had my mate(another engineer) when he gave it a go. The problem was that we didn't have any axle stands available to lift the car properly so i asked my MOT guy to change it while he was doing the rear springs. He told me that this was the toughest filter of his career eventhough he didn't charge me for changeing it. My question is what has caused the filter to rust so bad and stick in place? Why i didn't face the same problem with the previous filter and why it didn't rust? Is it the optimax? the redex? Any thoughts?
