General Car Chat / Re: Rapier
« on: 04 October 2020, 12:34:48 »
Out on the dog walk this morning I saw an E reg Sunbeam Rapier parked on the driveway of a house. It looked to be in beautiful nick although the alloy wheels it was wearing to my eyes didn't suit it at all,nor did the twin exhaust pipes sticking out of the rear down the centreline of the car. However the small chromed V8 badge affixed to the boot lid might make up for those drawbacks if it held to be true.

Could it have the Sunbeam Tiger V8 engine  fitted  ? :-\

General Car Chat / Re: Massive MOT failure - goodbye Omega?
« on: 28 September 2020, 08:56:06 »
Ron, sorry to hear this , but that seems a bloody long list of deteriation in a year , bearing in mind the previous almost faultless MOT's  :o :o

Is it the same garage /tester as last year  ?

Fail issues are at only 2 main areas . O/S rear spring and brake pipe area and O/S front wishbone and brake pipe/hose area. And of course  headlight issue.
Not a lot of work for an able bodied competent home mechanic to get another year out of the car, but without being rude to you ,health wise, probably impossible for you to carry out yourself.  :-\ :-\

So getting a garage to do even the essential issues is going to be quite a bit.  :'( :'(
Then there is the list of advisories to look at in the longer term.

As Bigriff says  a chat with serek may be the next step before you condem the car   ;)

Omega General Help / Re: Rear wheel bearing estate /saloon . . .Same ?
« on: 27 September 2020, 13:19:39 »
Good info guys  . . .thanks .     :y :y

Nick . . .may take you up on the loan of stuff . . . .but will attempt with my Bruv first .

No problem if we get stuck   as car will be off road and is not needed for essential transport .

But . .don't hold your breath on when this will be done as i have had a health issue recently and am just about back to running on all pots . And  car has MOT until the end Sept 2021  :y :y

Thanks Nick  .  .excellent info and links .  £30  with discount code for the Q drive one .  Can't seem to get the SKF one up on their site.

As I only do a couple of K miles a year in the omega  . . I guess the Q drive  will do me fine .

Shown my Bruv the maintenance guide , he seems to think we can do it ok . He has lots of pullers etc.  and says he can probably make what is required.

I seem to recall that you once posted a sketch/pic of what you made (tool / puller wise ) to make this job doable . . .could you possibly post it up again .   ;) ;)   :y

Hi Nick  . . . can only find ECP listing the "Q- Drive " make .   2 versions ,armoured vehicles and non armoured vehicles  :-\ :-\

I am not trying to over complicate purchasing this  . .. just want make sure i get the right one.

Am I right in thinking that SKF is a decent make ? or is it SKP  as you have written ?

Omega General Help / Rear wheel bearing estate /saloon . . .Same ?
« on: 27 September 2020, 09:43:55 »
Hi all      found a supplier for a SKF rear wheel bearing for the 2.6 CDX estate at £28  which seems cheap for a SKF.  But it only says saloons on there compat chart .  Do the estste and saloon rear wheel bearings differ ?

Advice on the OEM part No. would be helpful if someone knows it .   TIA     Al   :y

General Discussion Area / Re: Music - Guitar - Pay attention
« on: 21 September 2020, 09:30:53 »
Um . . might try a bit of guitar theory if I can find a teacher like that  ::)

Question  :  what do all those knobs do on the amp head in the first video ?

All you need is :  1.  valves  2. volume control   3. tone/cut  control.   end of . . .  simples  ;D ;D

Oh . .  .and maybe a master volume if you have unfriendly neighbours  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I don't normally get involved in this sort of thing and not sure if this has not already been covered on OOF,  . . .but reports I have read /heard say that Sue  Barker , Matt & Tuffers  from Question of Sport are all being sacked /put out to grass by the BBC.
Names in the hat for new presenter and a team captain appear to be  Alex Scott  and Jermaine Jenus. ?
Not too impressed with that after Ms. Scott's  previous attempts to pull the racist card and voice her opinion on that  at every available opportunity .
I am now wondering if the London Mayor may be asked to captain a team  ::) ::)

IMO    Q of Sport is a very enjoyable light hearted programme , enjoyed by all who watch it .  Who is calling the shots these days at the Beeb ?  >:( >:( >:( >:(

If the incorrect bolt is M12x?? or even M13x??, then the nut that came off it won't fit on any of the correct bolts which will be M14x1.5mm. So that would further confirm that it's incorrect.

You can get a pack of five similar nuts here for £10.99 inc 1st class post. Class 10 like the GM originals, but maybe not the exact same plating. Other pack quantities are available. A single nut seems to be £6.50, so you might as well have all new nuts.

Surely the OP is now gonna be looking for a new correct size wishbone  Nut AND bolt ?  :-\ :-\

86
Pinch bolt is 16mm both ends...

May have been a quirk of available sockets for the main bolts :D

In my case . . .  more like Senile Dementia setting in   ;D ;D ;D

Lets hope OP gets this  sorted to his satisfaction

87
Done my wishbones just recently . . .  seem to recall the 2  wishbone bush bolts are 21mm socket  and nuts are 22mm socket.   :-\

:-[ :-[Having a few memory issues at present time  . .  just checked these they are BOTH 21mm heads

maybe its the pinch bolt that has differing bolt and nut head size .

If you have changed wishbones  . . .can you not use your vernier to see what the bush size is in one of the old ones. As in . . . or how does the bolt fit into the bush.  Should be a sliding fit I would say and if it wobbles then it must be the wrong bolt .  Only my 2p worth of opinion.  ::)

Removing wipers and scuttle will enable you to get a much better look.   ;)

Wipers/scuttle removal process is covered in the Maintenance Guide - external trim  - wipers/scuttle removal .
