General Car Chat / Re: Question on MOT presentation
« on: 12 September 2020, 12:48:07 »
Just a suggestion Amba  . . . as I have done this myself in the past .   Ask your usual MOT garage if they will do you a "pre MOT "   where in my situation he carried out the "MOT" without booking it onto the system. I ended up with a small list of issues that needed attention and some that were likely to cause fail issues in the "near future". He charged me just the usual MOT fee.  Depends I suppose on how well you know your MOT man .
Of course getting Nick to check it would be just as good.

Hi all ,
being one of "senior" years and not much knowledge of computers  . . .I need a bit of help with my forum homepage.

I don't know what I have done but for quite a while now my "Homepage" opens as General Discussion and not the usual homepage index  :-\

Probably dead simple to change but I don't have a clue how to do it  :-[ :-[ :-[

Can someone direct me through it by posting  . ;) ;)

Regards & TIA    Al  :y

Nice one.  :y

By the way, your old 3.2 is now just over 238K, it would have been about 250K if COVID hadn't happened.

Great . . .Still going well then.   This 2.6 CDX is just about to roll over 200K.  :y

Done a bit of work this year ,   new wishbones , drop links and  front ARB  bushes . Probably didn't need that done  . . .but all good for the foreseeable future now.

Sailed through with NO advisories again   :) :)  Had to change my tester as the one I have used for 30 odd years has sold up and  new owners of the business don't do MOT's  :o :o :o

New place near to me  . . .owner/tester commented on how well looked after the "old girl " is  :-[ :-[ :-[

Only done 1300 miles in it this year  . . .Covid put paid to our spring and summer weekend jolly ups away.

Oh . . . .and no mention of any issue with the N/S rear wheel bearing I was posting about a while ago  ;) ;) ;) ;)

Omega General Help / Front wheel bearing /hub change. Question
« on: 30 August 2020, 07:29:55 »
hi All      doing a front hub change this morning .  From what I can see, the guide in the maintenance section does not seem to show the actual removal of the old hub after removing necessary brake parts etc. , only "driving" the new one on .  Question is  . . .is a puller required for this , or will it just "tap" off from behind ?  TIA    Al  :y

You could the[highlight
refurb the original GM wishbones at your leisure[/highlight]  Polybushes at the front, GM bushes at the rear and new balljoints if needed.
Followed by wheel alignment at Tyre smart Witham.  :y

You're the man Albs  . . .exactly what i was thinking with the bones    :y :y

U got an idea of how much a geo set up is at witham nowadays  ?   :-\ :-\

A couple of years ago it was around £75. You need to make sure the front and rear track rods are freed off before you go though. This often involves new rear track rods at £100 a pair. ::)
If you get to the point where you are ready to take it for alignment, give me a shout and I will see if I can come over and say hello.
Also need to give them the WIM settings rather than standard ones. If you dont have them let me know.

Sounds like a plan  Albs  . . .dont know when it will be yet though.   Keep you posted  :y

Will look at the rear track rods before though  . .

Price works out more than the ATP kit, especially if allow for the track rods and droplinks ;)

Then refurbish the ones you take off ready for the next one :y

yep  Doc   seems the sensible way to go  :y :y :y

Ok chaps thanks for the replies  . . . .thinking that we have probably covered these bad  issues with poly for the rear bush in the past on here  . . . just can't remember it  . . .  Sad state I'm in nowadays  ;D ;D

Just gonna stick with a pair of the usual german imports . .ATP type ones   for the moment.

(Apologies to TB  . . .I know he hates them  . .  but they suit me and a few others on here  :P :P )

Wow !  :o wont be getting those then  . . . looks like catastophic failure of the wishbone itself  :o :o :o

So will these Strongflex ones be ok for the other one and the ARB ?
