This sounds like a failed crankshaft sensor. Not sure what the noise means. Have you checked for stored fault codes?

Omega General Help / Re: Breather Bridge Seals and Cam Gaskets
« on: 01 April 2018, 17:55:22 »
Its always been black on those seals, green is for somewhere else
Might not be green, can't remember for sure. However the Vauxhall listed sealer is/was 90542114 (GM kat 15-03-170). It's apparently still available and it's also specified in the Haynes manual. That sealer, whatever colour it is, works but goes hard and crystallises over time and then the seals fail again, even if the seals are genuine Vaux.

Opinion seems to be unanimous that the black sealer 90485251 (GM kat 15-03-295) works better.

I used this about 3 years ago. Outlasted the rest of the car. Anyway I had no complaints.

Some members say the GM original seals are the only way to go. It seem to me that it's just as important to get the mating surfaces thoroughly cleaned of old sealant. And to use the good GM sealant (black) 90485251. The original green sealant is part of the problem.

Omega General Help / Re: Misfire on Cylinder 3
« on: 31 March 2018, 23:31:46 »
It's a wasted spark system across three cylinder pairs 1-4, 3-6, 5-2 So 3 fires at the same time as 6 and vice-versa. One of the pair would always be on the exhaust stroke so the unnecessary spark in that cylinder is 'wasted'. Hence a coil pack fault on cyl 3 usually affects cyl 6 etc.

Make sure that plug wires are pushed fully home on the coil brick pack. That said I've seen an out of the box fail with an aftermarket coil pack. Very irritating given the effort required to replace the coil pack on some models.

Since you're overhauling or replacing a caliper consider changing the brake fluid.

Omega General Help / Re: Rear brake pads
« on: 15 March 2018, 17:07:45 »
The pads can be obtained easily almost anywhere - it's the pins and clips for vented discs that are like gold dust.....

I managed to find the pins and clips.  I kept getting sent short one's from so called brake specialists.
Be nice to know where you found them and what they cost?

And the pins and springs in the GM 9193476 kit should be correct for any Omega B with non vented discs. The price for the package still beats original GM pads on their own.

Concerning pins and springs for vented rear discs.
GM never listed these as kits

The retaing pin is 9195055 (Opel Kat No 5 42 801)
Cross Springs are 9195056 (Opel Kat No 5 42 913)

Andy
The pins when still available were apparently £5.80 ea and the springs £4.49 ea, trade + VAT. So a nice £38.62 just for the fitting kit.

I may even go to one of those places that hire out ramps. My back struggles working on the floor

Can do the exhaust then too
Do such places still exist? Had believed they fell foul of health and safety years ago.

Omega General Help / Re: Non-Starting Elite Estate
« on: 25 February 2018, 17:39:51 »
If the original crank sensor was replaced (12 months ago?) and has since been giving trouble it might be that it's the wrong one. As I recall there are two different versions with an oval connector fitted to V6s. One is Bosch GM-part 90542073 and the other is Siemens-GM-part 90492061. Although they both fit apparently they are not interchangeable.

There is also a crank sensor with a rectangular 3 pole connector. That's GM-part 90492006, not sure of the original manufacturer or application. Possibly 3.2 V6?

Is there anything to help identify the one you removed and the one from Heathrow?

Omega General Help / Camshaft locking key for 16 valve
« on: 22 February 2018, 04:05:22 »
The cheapest locking wedge I can find  for a twin cam 16V seems to be a Draper 61276 at £4.77 on ebay. The Draper seems to be plastic so is it up to the job? There's a metal Sykes Pickavant at £6.99.

Omega General Help / Re: Keeping brake discs from going rusty
« on: 22 February 2018, 03:45:15 »
The original GM discs are painted with a primer like coating on the unswept areas. That stops the outer circumference rusting. Nothing will prevent surface rust on the swept area, except using the car which will quickly clean the discs. You can get aftermarket discs that are coated. They tend to be more expensive than the vanilla versions.

Or consider one from here.

15 months ago I made an offer on the (350) 2.5/2.6 single tailpipe version and agreed on £68.00 delivered. It shipped from Germany in less than a week and was a lot more solid that I had expected. The rear box tail pipe is a very utilitarian compared to the GM originals, but likely so are the ETS ones.

Make and CCA?
I've always found same or higher CCA more important for reliable starting than nominal capacity, especially in cold weather.

Stiff black plastic tube? Then it's the autobox ventilation tube. You leave it unobstructed with the open end pointing downwards so nothing can drop in. Perhaps cable tie it to the rubber oil breather tube at the back?
