Xenon lights
« on: 11 March 2009, 15:12:10 »

I have a problem. My check control says something like
LOW BEAM.
I've seen that some other folks had the same problems with leveling the xenon lamps. Does anyone have an actuall picture of the cables which control the leveling. Someone mentioned that the cables sometimes fall out. Does this happen on the headlights directly or somewhere near the fuse box??

I'm afraid i don't know the answer to your question but you might get a better response if you post it in general help.

PS. Are you sure you have xenons?

It's not a cable that falls out. There's a steel ball on the wishbone and another on the level switch, the two are linked with a rod ythat has a plastic socket on each end - a baby version of the drop links. Your fault could be either sensor front or rar suspension or the level motors in each head light. Vx sensors are £50ish each.

Right, lets get this little thread starightened out.

The self leveling has 5 main components

A front mounted level sensor
A rear mounted level sensor
A near side level motor
An offseide level motor
A controller

The front mounted level sensor is on the lower front wishbone behind the front wheel passenger side wheel (towards the rear of the wheel arch)

The rear mounted level sensor is on the passenger rear semi trailing arm, this is just in front of the rear wheel

The level motors clip into the head lamps

The ECU is uder the passenger front wing on most mdoels.

The most common failure is the arm on the sensors popping out. This is almost always due to the connecting rod, which has 2 small ball joints on it' seizing up. This can often be fixed by replacing or freeing up the seized rod assemblies and re-connecting the arm to the sensors.

Less common is failure of the level motors, normaly following water ingress.

Tech2 will reveal the item at fault by reading the fault codes.

And to add a bit more to that useful post, if its a level sensor issue, normally both headlights will aim low. If its a failed servo, generally 1 headlight will be aimed low - the faulty one being left stuck in its normal position.

Where are you based?

Edit: This shows the components of the front end, level sensor in centre of picture.

can also be a poor connection to the sensors caused by a clumsy idiot at ATS or Slo-Fit disturbing the wiring when adjusting the back brakes!!

Thank you all for the help.
I'll try to check it again today, I found the back sensor but couldn't find the front one. Hopefully the pic that is posted by Alexandjen will help alot. But I'm afraid that the leveling motor is broken because the right light is aiming lower than the left one.
Thanks for the help guys.
I appreciate it alot.
