Omega General Help / Metallic paint
« on: 23 June 2010, 22:29:35 »
I need to respray a couple of lower rear door panels and a rear wheel arch where the dreaded tin worm has chewed through the paint. The colour is star silver II which obviously has a clear lacquer finish. How can I get the best colour match? I have tried Halfords off the shelf stuff and it is poor.

Before I changed the rocker seal on the left bank the car occasionally idled a bit up and down and stalled at lights quite often, when I put it back together the revs on idle went from 1200 to 2000 very rythmically! OK from cold but after 4/5 mins off it went. I couldn't sort it so off to the garage it goes, it has been there 5 weeks and they are stumped! It's not the ICV, the crank sensor, blocked breathers, leaking breathers or MAF sensor. So what the hell is it? Anyone got any bright ideas? It has been on a Tech 2 - this reported a faulty crank sensor but they have tried that with no joy. Please help, I am desperate! Is my next step to pay the garage bill and scrap the beast?

Omega General Help / Heater bypass valve
« on: 21 June 2010, 22:31:18 »
Heard lots about and I have even seen it but what does it do, when does it do it and how does it work?
Mine does not leak but there is very little heat coming out of the heater. Not a problem at the moment but could be in the colder months assuming I ever get it back from the garage (different thread). Just as a side issue the AC compressor and condenser have also had it, yes I know, maybe it is time to get rid, but when it goes it goes great!

General Car Chat / V plate clit alarm
« on: 28 April 2011, 13:07:39 »
Sorry for this but the Renault OOF equivalent is pants!

The alarm on my son's 1.6 SI keeps going off when the weather warms up, anyone got any ideas for how to stop it? My understanding is that the alarm and immobiliser are within the same unit?  :y

General Discussion Area / V6 cambelt done by a master!
« on: 17 August 2010, 21:30:41 »
I consider myself to be a fair DIY mechanic but watching Daz aka Darth Loo Knee fit a cambelt kit to my 2.6 was humbling. I did of course assit by making quality coffee! Didn't just do the kit, his checking of the timing was almost obsessive - just how you would want it. He also sorted my creaking door, found a bodged vacuum conection and taught me more about the ICV on my old 2.5 in 5 minutes than I have learned in a year! A real top bloke, thanks Daz.

p.s. I liked the chatter about cars, bikes, books & even education but what is it with you and the Rik Astley music? You need to get out more mate!  ;)
