Omega General Help / VAUXHALL FRONT DISC AND PAD SETS
« on: 15 July 2008, 21:01:16 »
Wanted to share my experience of yesterday (apologies if this is common knowledge)

Apparently vauxhall offer 2 qualities of discs (one as part of the disc/pad set (non german) and discs only (german made).

As an experiment I called up Vauxhall for front discs only. They refused to offer saying that the only ones they do come as part of the set and were about £80 with TC. Handed phone to my mechanic (ex- Vauxhall) who was offered the german made discs for about £160!!

He advises he has had too many comebacks with sticking issues on the vauxhall disc/pad sets and instead recommends a german made brand (maybe Lucas? can't remember)

Just wanted to share this and wondered what discs others have found good? I understand most people will not pay for the german made discs but there is a principle involved. I wondered if others think it is not always best to fit genuine parts?

I have 77K on the clock so hopefully still lots of miles still left in the miggy!!

Omega General Help / HELP ADVICE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED
« on: 30 October 2007, 21:06:27 »
Here's the story (from a newbie with not much know how!)
- Car cut out a couple times at low speed - (cleaned breathers and not cut out since)
- Doing about 70 and car "jumps", goes into limp mode with autobox warning on MID - Got ecus read and coming up with: (Gearbox side)Range sensor & Torque Converter (Engine side) Throttle position sensor, Coil Management, Vehicle Speed Sensor. My mechanic suggested all these could not go wrong at same time so reset ecus and 2 weeks later the same thing happens, this time the following codes appear:
P0136 - 02S12 Open Circuit
P1555 - Undocumented Code
P1550 - Electronic Throttle Control Reduced Power
P0100 - MAF Sensor Circuit Low Input
P0120 Throttle Position Sensor Circuit Incorrect Signal

I cannot believe all these things are wrong and wouold be greatful for any suggestions please. Car has done 71,000 miles

Cars for Sale & wanted / For Sale 2.2 CD Petrol Facelift (2000)
« on: 01 June 2011, 21:46:33 »
2.2 cd petrol auto saloon presented in Nocturno Blue, 101K. First registered September 2000.

MOT- Sept 2011

Tax - April 2012 (i.e. nearly a whole year!)

Very good condition Cream cloth interior (i believe it is actually a cdx interior) it has 16'' CD wheels in good condition, with good tyre tread.

Cruise control fitted. Hands free kit installed but i have not tested it. I even have an old nokia phone to suit.

I have had the car since Dec. 2006 (One prev. owner 63K with full service history including a cambelt change) and have had the following done:

New Throttle Body soon after buying the vehicle. Gearbox and Climate Upgrade done by The Boy

Regular oil changes every 5K max. (spark plugs, oil, fuel, pollen and air filter changed Aug. 2010). Loads of receipts

Brake discs, pads and shoes changed approx. 15k ago.

New Lemforder front wishbones and alignment done by WIM April 2010

Cambelt, tensioner and Water Pump changes -
One at approx. 70k and one at 99K (Last Christmas also including new cam cover gaskets, head gasket, head bolts fitted by Wellung666).

Manifold Stud repaired last Christmas by Wellung666. Whilst the manifold was off i decided to change the timing belt, tensioners and water pump and also had a new head gasket and head bolts for good measure plus new cam cover gaskets and O-Rings. Also new flexipipe welded (sometimes you get a slight rumble from exhaust but runs fine).

I did all this because i was planning to keep her for the long term but then in a mad moment i bought an Elite with 30K on the clock!

The lifters were fine when checked at christmas but does still sound a little tappety on start up but soon goes quiet.
If i was keeping it i would clean the oil pickup pipe as i reckon this would cure it.

Bodywork shows some stonechips on the bonnet and there is a little crack in the rear bumper, overall looks good with no rust.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this car and feel she has many more miles to give as she still drives well.

I am not interested in breaking this as i want the space on my driveway and would prefer someone else got use of my "bluey"

Car is in Maidenhead, Berkshire

Looking for £750

General Car Chat / Black soot around door sills and rear bumper
« on: 25 July 2011, 21:36:50 »
Does anybody else get a fine black soot on the bottom plastic bit that runs under the doors and around sides (mainly) of rear bumper? My car is silver and it is beginning to p me off. Does it come from the exhaust or tyres?

General Car Chat / Phot upload help required please
« on: 01 June 2011, 21:16:58 »
I have spent the last hour trying to get photos to appear in a post. Have had a go in test section. I can't get to grips with it and have looked at the guide but i must be doing something wrong. I can get it to provide a link but i want the photos to appear straight away one under the other as i'm trying to prepare a car for sale ad.

Can someone help please?

General Car Chat / Same tyre tread pattern per axle?
« on: 06 March 2010, 21:36:30 »
I need to replace the front passenger tyre (currently pirelli P7 i think). The other 3 tyres are accelera alpha and can anyone advise if it is better to replace with accelera alpha again or use the spare which is a new michelin vx3a?

Any advice would be appreciated.

General Car Chat / Front Wiper Motor for Astra 2002
« on: 20 October 2009, 22:34:10 »
As the title says I am after a front wiper motor (dad's car). Is this a dealer part only? I have been quoted 100 pounds all in from stealers and i am reluctant to get one from a scrappy since i feel it could be a false economy. Does anyone know where for example i could get a more reasonably priced one with a guarantee.

P.S. Eurocarparts do not offer.

Any pointers would be appreciated :y

General Car Chat / Trolley Jack Recommendation
« on: 15 June 2009, 13:58:44 »
I've been looking at machinemart and there is a 2 ton (http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/clarke-2-tonne-trolley-jack-ctj2001g) jack with what looks like a broader chassis and a 3 ton model (http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/ctj3000ql-3-tonne-quick-lift-trolley-j/brand/clarke)
Any recommendations as to which is going to be better would be appreciated. Also any tips on whether to get some axle stands also?
