Slight knock from the front suspension
« on: 08 May 2012, 22:23:32 »

Alright guys.

Back for the knowledge fountain again. Got a bit of a knock from the front suspension that has got worse quite quickly. I can feel it through the steering wheel too as well as it being audible inside the car. The steering idler was replaced about 3 weeks ago so it'll be going back to get this checked but I was wondering what else it could be. Next thought was droplinks? These used to be quite a common thing to go on the Vectra I had before the Omega and created a knocking noise from the front suspension but I can't remember if I could feel it through the wheel or not. The car doesn't wander like it did before the steering idler was done but it doesn't feel quite as precise as it did.

Do droplinks sound like the correct next port of call?

Cheers.

Sometimes difficult to feel wear in drop links yet they still knock.  They are cheap and easy to replace - I would replace these first and monitor results  :y

Yep think you are on the right track with drop links first  :y

Drop link play is very easy to feel in the ball joints. PROVIDED both sides are jacked up, meaning the roll bar is not stressed under torsion and taking up the play.

This way there is no need to guess and by potentially wasting money by replace them unnecessarily and waisting money to boot.

Not always the case - as stated earlier a pair of drop links are inexpensive (aftermarket ok) and easy to fit.  My money is on replacement drop links curing the knock.

It is most likely, granted. But could also be a wheel baring, track rod play, buggered wishbone bushes. IMO, I.D the fault conclusively first, before adding parts and possibly labour unnecessarily.
