....
, although it is pretty. ....

Especially attractive when in Tobacco Leaf brown  ::) ::)

....BL decided on a 'brown' that closely matched the colour of a human bodily function. :)

Brown was hardly an unusual colour for cars in the seventies; even those known to be 'stylish' like France and Italy used it.

And there was always scope for making BL's Russet worse; several years ago a friend bought a Dolomite in that colour that some blind joker had painted the trim(grille, pinstripes, etc and the wheels) gold. We bought a couple of aerosols of satin black on the way home, and transformed the look of the car in about 30minutes. That car was a healthy 1850, but would struggle to keep up with a 1600 Ghia mk2 Escort. Dolomite brakes were barely adequate for a 1500; they were truly awful on the bigger engined cars.

The Triumph 2000 range over the years of production had three shades of brown - Maple and Russet in later cars, with the very 'period' Sienna Brown in earlier models.
I have a Mk2 2.5PI in Sienna - affectionately known as 'Dog Sh*t Brown'...... not the best colour, but I don't mind it (honest!)  ;D, although whatever possessed owners to buy a Triumph Stag in that colour I couldn't quite fathom....

The Triumph Stag I fell in love with belonged to my foreman when I 1st started work was Purple and he kept it emaculate.

It's no worse than the various sludge brown metallics that were available a few years ago, and you still see.

there are some horrible colours knocking about at the moment. You see some Fiat 500's in Baby Poo Brown ..... why you'd choose that colour is beyond me. And there's a Land/Range Rover  :-\ I see in my street that's basically shiny, solid grey undercoat.  ???

I believe there is an Audi colour pretentiously known as Nardo grey.......I call it grey primer.

I know one of the more productive salesmen at my local Audi dealership who drove an RS6 Performance in Nardo Grey. He wasnt overly impressed when I casually asked when it was going back for its colour coat ;D

While I was polishing the car yesterday, one of the mechanics from the garage down the road parked the Focus RS he'd just finished working on. It's painted a solid dark grey, with shiny black wheels and opaque privacy glass - legal, so the front drop glass is just tinted to look really stupid. It looks hideous. You wouldn't pick such a combination from a colour chart printed in black and white, down a coal mine, during a power cut.

Yes, I wonder how long it will be before funeral directors order their new limousines painted "americano" :)

That said, Mum's Solara was painted Cafe Noir and Gilt Metallic. As always, it would have looked better if the dark colour had been on the bottom.

Vinyl roof by any chance, remember them being common on a lot of cars.

Zodiacs(lots of cars) were usually split at the belt-line, about level with the door handles. And for some peculiar reason the dark colour was usually on the top, which makes the car look taller.

No vinyl roof , but a chap opposite had a pinkish colour Zephyr convertible grey hood.
