Honda E

I saw one of these parked up today ... they're certainly different. Not sure I like the 'wooden' trim  :-\

I've just looked them up on Auto Trader ...... How much?!?!?!?  :o :o

The 'wood' looks better than the '70s Civics :D

Looks very woke though... absolutely zero character. Needs a Hotpoint badge on it.

Zero character?  ;D

Compared to what?  Fiat 500?  Vauxhall Nova?  Ford Ka?

The Honda E is a marvellous little bit of kit.  I am known for saying, on record, that the Nissan Cube is a great design also, though!  :P

I like it!  :y  Maybe has a hint of a MK1 VW Golf about it?  ???

Can't see the need for all the screens on the dash though?  :-\

It might be, but looks like a cardboard box ..... and a very very expensive one at that.

It does a much better job of retaining original styling cues in a modern car than attempts like the Mini, F500, and Beetle do.

Like all this sort of thing, it deliberately looks different to other current Hondas. After a few years, the same tech will spread to other models, and you'll not be able to tell which are electric and which aren't. Just like Toyota did with the Prius, and BMW have done with the E-Minis, which use the same drivetrain as the I3 without the expensive carbonfibre shell and trying even harder styling. You'll also notice the Mini is somewhat cheaper than the I3 was.

I'm guessing, as people on a Vx Omega Forum that we have a shared affiliation with large saloons.

Of course the little Honda E is going to be a bit 'meh'..... but it serves a purpose.  It serves a purpose and it does it incredibly well.  If I lived in that shithole London, or any other City Centre and needed a car.... the Honda E would be it.  £30k is not a stupid amount (what's the Government scheme nowadays?).

It just looks... Only way to tell its face from its arse is the colour of the number plate... much like a Mazda 121 :D

I have yet to see a current, no pun intended ::), car and thought 'I quite fancy one of those' :-\

That said, I'll see a '61 plate and think that's nearly new ;D

I like the E, not enough to buy one, but I do like it.

As for current cars, outside of the exotica, I really like both the I-pace and the EQC, but not sure about them as an ownership proposition given the state of the non-tesla charging infrastructure.

Heated seats, heated steering wheel, 3 pin mains plug, that should drop your maximum range from 131 miles to about 10.  ;D

Heating the seats is more efficient than heating the car.
Being able to use the waste heat from an IC engine to warm the interior is a bonus.

Have you looked in a Mercedes or Audi lately? Huge screens, placed by opening the back door and tossing them in backhanded.

If the 'instrument panel' is replaced with a screen, what possible use is there for another, even larger one in the middle of the dash?

No Nick, can't afford one one so don.t make myself envious.  ;D I'm a poor pensioner y'know. :D  Though if the dashes are anything like that Honda E, i don't think i'm missing much.

Just looking at the pictures again, one thing that makes me laugh is that by the battery level indicator is a little picture of a petrol pump, the same as a normal car has.  I wonder if that might confuse some?  ;D

The 'wing mirrors' are funky though.  :y

Replacing protruding mirrors with flush mounted rearview cameras is one of the few good reasons to have screens in a car. But the display should be instead of the windscreen mounted mirror and display a panoramic view, just like you get looking out the front screen.

The stubby things on that Honda just look like normal mirrors have been knocked off by a passing car....

Not to mention useless gauges in enormous dashboards and additional heads-up displays

I'd like to see a return to some of the simpler sixties look: a thin, narrow dash with a strip speedo with temp and fuel gauges at the ends, and minimal switches. 1100, Avenger, Viva are good examples, as is the Rover 2000 for bigger, better equipped cars

There's no need radio controls on the dash and at the steering wheel, so deleting the dash ones is a big ergonomic improvement.

Climate control has mostly removed the need to constantly fiddle with complicated heater controls; they could easily be reduced to a temperature control, fan speed, on/off button and a demist button that turns on both heated screens/mirrors and diverts all the heater output to the screen.

We figured out how to put all the needed controls(lights, indicators, wipers and horn) on two column stalks years ago, yet for some reason things like light switches have become separate again.

I think Tesla had the right idea of displaying and controlling everything from one screen, but it's too big and still has lots of junk that really isn't needed - like electrically controlling the glovebox latch ???

Yes there is.  If you're a passenger and the driver has shit music on you can do something about it!  :y  ;D

You've misread it; that means it takes 4.1 hours to recharge after you get back. Asda(either one) is a 4mile round trip......  ;D
