General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?
« on: 25 April 2018, 20:04:00 »
I've just replaced the adjusters on my headlamps.  I'm so glad I found this forum, I wouldn't even have had a clue how to fix them or even that it was a problem if I hadn't read it on here.  The instructions were handy and easy to follow, as the aluminium adjusters seem to have fallen by the wayside, I was able to find a similar offering on Ebay that does the trick:

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: After Market Head units?
« on: 24 April 2018, 20:08:25 »
I ended up getting one of these:

https://www.pioneer-car.eu/eur/products/avh-x490dab/specifications

£150 for an ex display model from Halfrauds, it came complete and in its box :)

It looks like I might need to doctor the Vauxhall facia adaptor I bought though, the cage and the head unit surround are slightly too large for the adaptor.

I changed the drop links and front roll bar bushes today.  I think the drop links were original, It took me about half an hour per side to undo the siezed nuts on either side and my shoulders are killing me now!  Putting the new ones on was a doddle and took minutes.  It's made such a difference to the ride, no chattering sensation through the steering wheel when I'm going down the dirt tracks we call roads now!

The only angle grinder I've got is big enough for cutting flags and fenceposts!  If i'd stuck that in the wheel arch I'd probably be shopping for a new strut!  ;D

As soon as you find that a droplink nut won't turn easily, cut it off. They're not worth spending any time on.

I would have but I couldn't find my hacksaw! angle-grinder

Fixed that for you. A few seconds per nut, and the links fall on the floor. You could be drinking beer less than ten minutes after cutting.

Omega General Help / Re: torque convertor lock up

Clever, isn't it!  :y 8)

Ron.

I think it's a cracking gearbox all in all, one of the best slush boxes I've driven after the Mercedes 5G and 7G tronics.  The only thing I'd wished theyd done is made top gear a little taller on the 2.6, part of me is tempted to put a higher ratio diff on for more relaxed cruising.

Omega General Help / Re: Is This Really The End Of My Omega?
« on: 16 April 2018, 19:27:36 »
If the rest of the car is good and the engine is knackered, I'd look at getting a second hand engine, ebay is full of them at quite cheap prices.

Any noise from the pump when you try dry steering or at low speed?  Mine sounded like a tortured cat when it had the PAS leak (nice and quiet now its fixed).

Omega General Help / Re: Power steering loss

Before I fixed the PAS pipes on my Omega, the oil was becoming aerated due to the perforated pipe.  This was giving a false high reading in the reservoir and the steering was really heavy at low speed.  It is possible the steering feels fine at higher speeds simply because the car is moving.

I still have the PAS pipes I got from you if it turns out you need them.

Thanks for your reply and for your very kind offer.  I would certainly take you up on it but you are a good way from me.  I've ordered one of the second kit I posted a link to so I should now have a complete set to work with.  :y

I had one of those AC Delco kits fitted by the brilliant James (V6CDX) about 6 weeks ago and it was just fine - he would NEVER fit rubbish!  :y 8)

Ron.

Was the kit complete or was there a pulley missing?

I've found another cheap kit, but this one doesn't show the bolts in the picture:

Bugger, I'm not having much luck lately :(

Well thanks to biggriffins advice about swapping the new tensioners onto my existing backplate, I've just ordered one of these:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222619968296

I thought I'd share as it seems to be a damn good price!
