Hi, anyone have a timing belt kit for a 2.6?  Engine number 08541523.

Failing that, can anyone direct me to a cheap supplier?

Thanks.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / After Market Head units?
« on: 08 April 2018, 20:59:52 »
Hi all, I'm just curious as to what aftermarket head units you guys are using?  I'm not after a banging sound system, I just looking for something with Bluetooth for my phone and either USB or memory card compatability for my music collection.  I know some form of interface for the steering wheel controls and I'm presuming you lose the radio display from the trip computer.  I just want an upgrade to the CCR 2006 in my car as the facia is loose on it after the previous owner attempted to remove it while there were grub screws in the removal holes.

Does anyone know what size the grub screws are btw?

Thanks.

I don't know how I managed to post in one thread and have it appear in another  :-[

I'll blame my phone!

Some people want the moon on a stick James. I just wish I'd seen your Omega before I'd bought mine. I'd definitely have paid your asking price as I've probably already spent a  similar amount on buying mine and the new parts for itand I've yet to do the cambelt, change the gearbox oil and fit a tow bar yet!

I hope it goes to a good home on here!

This weekend I got the Omega back on the road for the first time since I picked it up.

The power steering is now fixed thanks to a pipe from gstylebaby from his pre facelift.  It fitted, but the route of the single pipe of the pre facelift is made up of two pipes on the F/L, I can only assume this was done to make if easier for the technicians as it was a swine to manipulate into position on both sides at once.

Having done this, it was a case of rebuilding the front end along with a new condenser and dryer unit.

I drilled out the sheared bolt on the battery tray and got a satisfactory fit with a bolt and clamp from a Fiesta that omegod provided.

I replaced the broken radiator cover with a non broken one, again thanks to omegod.

I treated her to fresh oil and a full set of filters (I think the fuel filter was original!)

I replaced the front discs and pads and my neighbour kindly overhauled the calipers for me.  I bled the whole system with new brake fluid which again was ancient, it was almost brown infact and has given a whole new feel to the brakes.  While doing this I fitted a replacement Xenon level sensor as the one already on the car had been put onto the wishbone with Tiewraps.

Finally, I replaced the wipers and the ash tray in the front console which had broken its catch and refused to close.

Now I can see about getting the cambelt and the auto box done and getting the aircon regassed.

When I took the scuttle off I found some sound deadening on the back which was absolutely saturated.  I decided to remove and discard it.

Worth making sure the windscreen sealing strip is secure and sealing the scuttle panel well on reassembly or you'll get water in the plug wells. :y

Hi Kevin, I meant to ask earlier, what do I need to be looking for?  The grey strip at the bottom of the windscreen seems sound but there are some areas of delamination on the windscreen that could suggest water ingress (I might well get a crack in my winscreen and need the services of autoglass at some point in the future ;) ).  I also noticed that the metal strip that houses the securing clips for the scuttle is looking pretty rotten :(, this car might not be the one I was planning to keep on as a running classic, but I do plan to get a good few years out of her.

This weekend, dropped the ball joint and found the boots I'd ordered were too small :(
Cleaned, degreased and regreased the front caliper mounts and put new rubbers on the pins.
Fitted the PAS high pressure hose that I'd got from gstylebaby and was pleased to find the pre-facelift pipe fits a facelift, the only difference being the pre-facelift pipe does the job of two pipes on the facelift.  I can only imagine GM changed it to two pipes because it was a complete bitch to manipulate at both ends!
Started rebuilding the front end with a new condenser and drier fitted.  The Condenser was a pattern part and I'm not 100% happy with the joint between the condenser and the pipes on the car, but I'll have to let an aircon specialist look at that for me, it might be possible to use a shim to get a better fit.

Walnut, I presume they only did one type of wood effect?

Hi,

As in the title I'm on the hunt for the following,

The front console ashtray for facelift models

A battery tray clamp and bolt.

The front level sensor for the xenon (the part that fits to the wishbone, doesn't matter if it's working or not, I  just need the fittings)

Thanks.

Just use google maps, you'd be surprised how far it's come. I was travelling into Leeds a couple of weeks ago and google maps informed me that there was a delay of six minutes on my route and would I like to accept the alternative route. Pressed accept and it immediately knocked six minutes off my arrival time. Not bad for free.

I used to like using Waze which was an excellent free and interactive sat nav app.  I had to stop using it though as it became crash-tastic after an update and never got better.  Google maps is a good alternative though.

We woke up to about an inch or so this morning but it was melted away by early afternoon.  The wind has been biting cold though, it took me a good while to thaw out after my tinkering in the afternoon!

I was about to reply that I was also curious.  I used to subscribe to trafficmaster during my first round of Omega ownership in 2002.  Now I have one again I was wondering about seeing if I could subscribe again but I was unsure if Trafficmaster still existed.  In a way it's a shame the service has been retired, but I'm not in the least bit surprised, it will have to join the casette player as another bit of obsoloete kit in my car  ;D

Too cold to do anything this morning but by this afternoon the snow had melted and I wrapped up to do more tinkering.  I gave the headlamps a good buffing with some wonderwheels glass cleaner and while the result wasn't perfect, they now look clear rather than opaque.

Stripping down the front brakes revealed that the pads and discs had very little wear but were very heavily corroded and there was a couple of ridges in the discs which told me they would never be right even if the car had more regular use.

The discs and pads in the now in the bin, I found another issue which has me beginning to think that the garage the previous owner had spent so much money on were not very professional.  The offside dust sheild was heavily corroded and when they had replaced the wishbones (only last year looking at the invoices), they managed to trap the bottom of the dust shield against the bottom balljoint, tearing the rubber wide open.  I also found one of the caliper pins was not sliding cleanly and that the rubber boots were split.  Thawing out later on, I had new rubbers for the balljoints and calipers ordered up.

This Omega is doing wonders for my ebay rating!

Still waiting for my new Front disc & pads and Condenser and Dryer to arrive.  So this afternoon I took the scuttle off and repaired one of the split vacuum pipes at the back of the engine.

I also removed the two seized screws that had resulted in the previous owner breaking the radiator cover.  I have a good one to fit courtesy of omegod.

During my tinkering I noticed that the battery clamp was missing and the bolt for it was sheared.  I'll have to see if my neighbour has an easyout I can make use of and I'm now on the hunt for a battery clamp.

When I took the scuttle off I found some sound deadening on the back which was absolutely saturated.  I decided to remove and discard it.

I also found the power sounder had been removed (no big surprise)  The alarm horn had also been disconnected for some reason.
