As per a previous thread, it looks like my exhaust manifolds (well, at least one anyway) need replacing. Do these need to be OE Genuine Vauxhall stealers parts? I've seem them on Buypartsby for about £6 each. Any other suggestions?

  Also, is this worth attempting myself or will I enter a whole world of pain containing seized/rounded nuts, broken studs and stripped threads?

Manifolds or gaskets? £6 very cheap for manifolds!!

I believe it is Vx only recommended and only the multilayer metal gaskets. This is what I have just used on mine.

I may be wrong though.

How much did they set you back from the stealers Scottie? And did you fit them yourselves?

I got them from a member on here. I did them myself but I had the heads off the car to do the head gasket so was very easy.

Plenty of plus gas on the nuts and studs will help you not to snap them

I think they are about £8 plus the dreaded from a dealer so not to bad. IIRC on the early V6 the manifold to down pipe is held together by bolts and not studs with nuts so lots of plusgas from above. Driverside isn't too bad to do passenger side is a nightmare

Does the downpipe need to be removed or is there enough play to get the manifold off with it still attached.

  I'm certain that it's the drivers-side that has gone, thankfully. I've already changed the cam-cover gaskets on the passenger side and I really don't want to venture there again!

You don't have to remove the down pipe but you might have to undo the lamba sensor electrical connection so the wire doesn't stretch with the down pipe hanging

Or do you mean to get the gasket inbetween the manifold and head without removing the manifold from the down pipe.

It's one of those jobs that seems easy enough to do and I kinda begrudge paying all the labour when the parts are a tenner. However, it's the hassle of broken studs, stripped threads etc which is putting me off.

Actually no, the latter (this is what happens when you try and post whilst answering the phone with 3 screens open!).

Does the downpipe need to be seperated from the manifold in order to remove the manifold from the head and replace the gasket? Or is there enough play in the system to allow the downpipe to stay connect and move the manifold past the exhausts studs?

You do need to use genuine MLS gaskets. Cheaper pattern ones are more prone to premature failure.  They aren't expensive.
