TSB withdraw free AA membership on Platinum account
« on: 26 November 2020, 16:08:40 »

For decades I have enjoyed AA membership with my TSB Platinum account as long as I maintained a certain balance, Lloyds did it too. The account came with a £20 per month fee, waived if I maintained a certain balance. Now they are withdrawing the waiver. Do any other banks offer free AA membership?

I have a Nationwide account, £13 per month and including breakdown... Not AA though...

Your insurer might offer something or contact the AA direct if you're happy with the service.

I was with Lloyds until 2015... The only thing I miss is the AA membership. Wouldn't use Lloyds to change a fiver now... Vile bunch of shysters >:(

Im with Autoaid. Just under £50 a year iirc. Used them a few times and cant fault them.
Always found the AA / RAC expensive and rumoured to be over rated.

Barclays travel pack gives both of us (joint account) RAC cover and British and European travel insurance for £14 a month. RAC cover is comprehensive, ie. home start, onward travel, etc.
Of course, they know I'll never have to claim because my astra diesel will never let me down.

The AA do have offers and apparently price match on renewal.

Always found their service pretty good tbf ;)

Given TPs hooptie fleet, decent breakdown cover is a must :D

RAC have a maximum free tow distance for call outs within a mile (ish) of your house, never had this issue with the AA, even in the Taxi ;)

I did a lot of Autoaid work. If I typed out my experiences of just how appalling every job was we'd need a new swear filter.

AA & RAC are best if you expect the car to be fixed, although that's not common with modern cars. They don't have many patrols after 20:00, so expect a sub-contractor after hours.

Greenflag are OK.

Best by far is Brittania Rescue.

If you tow a caravan use the Caravan Club scheme, as all the others offer very limited cover for the trailer(they won't deliver to two destinations like your house/garage and the trailer storage)

We have NatWest Platinum. £13pcm I think that includes definitely national, but I think also European breakdown.

It also includes mobile phone cover, that was more than £13pcm on its own for the two of us.  :y

We ring the RAC and quote 'Barclays travel pack'. I wouldn't like to try that in French France, even though it says you can.

I flick between the AA and RAC depending who is the cheapest.  Generally pay around £100 for 15 months for joint membership - we don't cover the individual cars, just get joint membership which covers any car.

Beware that some policies do not cover cars older than a certain age (including all Omegas), yet happily take your premium.
