I have been with the RAC now for over 20 years. The odd occasion I have needed to use them they were very good; although on an evening call out, the contractor they appointed were very poor and told blatant lies to excuse a poor attendance time / incorrect recovery type of vehicle sent.
I always contact them at renewal and invariably get big discounts.
I have stuck with them as they cover the driver not specific vehicles, so my 'fleet' is covered. Some cheaper recovery companies only cover specified vehicles which is no good for me.
My daughter in law has a Citroen C4 Picasso auto (shame on her, I know...) which kept displaying a gear box fault, and the dash display occasionally coming up with a full red screen. She took it to Citroen (against other advice / suggestions) who whipped the gearbox out to repair some allegedly faulty electrical component (never said what) at a cost of towards £2000.
The fault returned regularly, but Citroen refused to acknowledge the fault was the same, claiming the fault codes were different. I havent seen the invoice so I'm not certain what they alleged the fault was. The last time it happened she called out the RAC, and they quickly diagnosed some 'bad' (??) wiring at the rear of the car, and effected a repair at the roadside. She wasn't very specific about where or what he did and I haven't seen the diagnosis sheet, but needless to say she has raised the issue with Citroen to try and get some recompense, but she's not holding her breath. She won't take on board suggestions or accept advice, so I have stayed out of it.
Two morals - don't trust Citroen, and second - my full marks for the RAC. The fault has not returned since, so I give 10/10 for the RAC
