Omega General Help / Ignition change?
« on: 31 August 2007, 21:58:10 »
If I wanted to change the ignition switch I would also need the ecu for the key. But if It was to go into a 1995 car from a 2000 car would the be ok to do? or is there going to be a problem or any mods?

Please can some one clear this up for me?

Cheers Paul  :y

Omega General Help / Oil cooler replacement on a v6 deisel?
« on: 18 July 2007, 20:50:46 »
Evenin every body, I need to know if replacing the oil cooler on a deisel is the same as petrol? Also the oil cooler has been bypassed, I don't know how and where until I have seen the car. My questions are;

What parts are needed for the replacement of the oil cooler?
Are there any specialist tools required?
And how long will it take? Bearing in mind I will only be able to do it when I finish work.

Omega General Help / Steering wobble when braking.
« on: 11 July 2007, 20:40:01 »
Right  what's this, When braking from speed I get alot of steering wheel wobble quite badly actually.

1. Could this be Idler arm?
2. wishbones?
3. Incorrectly balanced wheel's?
4. Warped disc's (didn't show up on MOT as in front brake inbalance)
5. Worn track rods (inner or outer)
6. Tracking out.

I think it could be the steering Idler arm, so could anyone point me in the right direction? :D

Omega General Help / What do you reckon to this problem?
« on: 05 July 2007, 17:55:39 »
Just looked on the other VX site and saw this chap had posted this problem. He has asked for help from the members on there but no one has got a solution yet. He was told to come to this site for advise but stated that there was no posting that matches his problem. But even though he just looked but didn't ask then he will not get anywhere. Plus the member that told him to come here did say that the members on here a very clued up and its a good site  :y :y so one up for us eh! So could anyone help him and solve the problem?

Hi Everyone,

Firstly I should say that I am not technically minded. I can change wheels, oil filters, air filters, bulbs etc but anything else is a bit beyond me.

I recently bought a 98 Omega (in fairness it looks really tidy inside)although it did have 150k on the clock. I knew it needed a new cat. I have recently moved so I took it to my local garage who immediately tried to fleece me to replace (they wanted nearly four hundred notes)... needless to say I got the part myself and agreed to pay for an hours labour to replace it...

The other problem... which I only discovered after I'd bought the car!

When driving for a ten minutes or so I can hear a vibrating/humming noise from under the front of the car. I assumed this was the drivers side front bearings. The garage told me that they couldn't get any noise out of the bearings when up on the ramp and they are not sure what is making it...??? They suggested that maybe it could be the diff and (yes no surprise here) that it would be expensive. The other thing they mentioned is that they think the engine is down on power?

I have no idea what to do. I can't afford to spend allot on the car as money is a bit tight.

Can anyone suggest:

a) What the noise maybe?
b) How much it would cost to put right?

If it is too expensive I shall have to try to sell the car and buy another one. (Knowing my luck I'll get a lemon!)

I actually really like the Omega and want to keep it if I can. Suggestions please...!!!???

Omega General Help / Oil cooler?????
« on: 02 July 2007, 22:00:11 »
Evenin guys,
Just a quick post for a friend, yes I have told him about the forum so you never know he might join. He does have a few omega's. Right lets get down to the nitty gritty,

Expansion tank, cream, sicky residue inside, oil in the water but engine oil dipstick clear, (no creamy mush).
Overheats. I have told him that this could be the result of the oil cooler knackerd but thought you guy's could tell me if this is correct.
The car is a 2.5 v6 engine. Could I be right?

Paul

I have found out that when I have my driver's door open the power window's work BUT when the door is shut they don't and the light goes out on the switch. Is this due to a broken wire wire or the switch on its way out? It happen's with both switch's. the car is a 2.0ltr manual M reg 1995. Has anyone had this problem before?

Omega General Help / Autobox problems
« on: 20 April 2007, 12:29:13 »
Had the autobox changed three weeks ago now, noticed smoke coming from underneath the car when accelerating above 70mph. Stopped the car looked underneath and saw transmission fluid sprayed all over the exhaust. With this I continued with my journey to my farther and the car drove fine with no more smoke. Took it to my mechanic and problem found to be the breather pipe broken so he exstended and rerouted now no more smoke BUT now the gearbox decides to drive in "limp mode" two miles from my house. So took back to mechanic and found the gear selector panel lights jumping about, all light up or showing that i am in third when i am in drive. We both agreed that the gear selector needed to be changed so he is going to take the old one off the knackered box and put on the new box and hopefully that will solve that problem. Next to be done will be to check the oil level as I lost a bit of oil so that sould need topping up, hopefully this will solve that problem. Should I get another gearbox to be on the safe side or should topping the oil and changing the gear selector mechanisim be enough?
Thanks in advance.
Paul from Reading. I drive a 2.0ltr 16 v 2000 model Omega.

:) :y Hi all, Paul's the name new to the forum but not to Omega's. I have owned four of the beast's and would love to own another one. All the Omega's I have owned have all been 2.0ltr's and all auto's. First Omega I owned was a 1998 'P' reg auto, my first omega loved it. They are roomy, comfortable and very very nice. Second one was a 1996 'N' reg GLS auto again same spec as the last one. (oopps didn't tell you) The P reg was a gls with air con the N reg was without but with the electric sunroof. My 'M' reg was an estate but a CD model got that through the MOT and sold for £600. (bought it for £120. Only wanted the wheels), but decided to do it up. Didn't cost alot to put on the road though. Last one is the current Omega which is the facelift model 2.0ltr 16v on a 'W' plate with a personal number on. This one is the current omega and is the CD model with an auto box. Now its time to sell on so I can try and purchase another BUT it must be the diesel engine with the BMW lump and manual. Auto box's and me don't really get on that well. So once again hi to all  :y :y
