General Car Chat / It's Alive
« on: 23 March 2017, 12:59:10 »
Right i'll try not to make this sound like a speech from the friggin Oscars but here goes ..............  :D

I just want to say a massive thanks to Al, Mark and anybody else who helped us out over the last few months with the various bits and pieces i've been doing to my car  :)
Your knowledge and patience has been greatly appreciated  :-*

So in no particular order ............

DAB head unit back lighting sorted.
Variable wipe stork fitted and working.
Cruise working.
MID conversion working.
Erratic idle / random stalling now sorted I think (replace MAF)

I can sadly confirm that the head unit will not talk to the MID display without a interface but i'll look into that more at a later date.

Right, off to feed my face then start rebuilding the bloody thing  :D

Omega General Help / Cruise clutch switch question
« on: 24 February 2017, 18:22:16 »
Okay, after much pain lying across the door sill because i'm a fat bastard and wedging my fat head up behind the dash, I have finally managed to get the thing in the hole.

One cable is up by the cruise stork to pick up 12 volts, the other part of the loom is coiled up ready to make its way to the ECU loom.

As warned, I haven't removed the green insert on the switch plunger or moved the red sliding sleeve.

Do I now slide down the red sleeve and remove the green locking insert or do I do something else ??

A single sperm has 37.5MB of DNA information in it.
That means a normal ejaculation represents a data transfer of around 1,587GB in about 3 seconds ....................

And you thought 4G was fast  :P :D :D :D

General Discussion Area / iphone / iCloud question
« on: 20 January 2017, 16:38:48 »
Been using my iPhone to take pictures / videos quite a lot recently.

Got to the point that most of the 16 gig was used up.
The phone backs itself up onto iirc  iCloud when plugged in, Wi-Fi enabled and not in use.

I've just been on icloud via the laptop and everything on the phone is there on the laptop screen so decided to delete stuff off the phone.
When deleting stuff, I'm given a message saying .............  This photo will be deleted from your iCloud Photo Library on all your devices.

Does all devices mean just my 2 iPhones or the phones and access via the laptop ??

Just to add

I've just gone into iCloud settings on the laptop and under My Devices, it shows my old iPhone 4s and the current phone.

General Discussion Area / Re Commissioning old HiFI speakers
« on: 15 January 2017, 15:29:14 »
As a few know, I love my Hifi and had a lovely sounding setup until my dog decided when excited to thrash the 2 drivers on one unit with his tail too many times and destroyed the speaker cones  :'( :'(

Okay, after coming the closest i've ever come to hurting a animal  :-[,  these speakers was wrapped up and retired to the back corner of the living room because I just didn't have the heart to bin them and were replaced with another newer pair which even though sounding excellent, I never really got on with them  :(

I've been scouring the internet on and off for a few years for reasonably priced spares and since Christmas, I've managed to pick up a pair of battered version of my speakers and another spare still in its box  :y :y

Right that's the background, this is the question ...............

The ones i'm going to re commission are Mission 734's which have 2, 7 inch main drivers and a soft dome tweeter.
The parts came out of a pair of Mission 732's use the exact same main driver but in a 2 way configuration with a smaller case.

The replacement speakers are at this moment running in the same case and humming away to some music at a very low volume but  significantly sound different the other one.

Okay, I know my set have been sat at the back for years and the new spares have come from cases that was running last week so what's the best way to sort this .........

1/.   Leave it now and run them in very slowly at low volumes to bring the old tight 734 back to life ?
OR
2/.   Pull all the drivers, fit the 2 off the 732's into the mid range holes in the larger cases and fit the drivers that have been stood for a few years into the bass position ?

Either way, I know i'm going to have to be very gentle with these for a few weeks  :( ;)

IF I can get these back running how I like them, I will have a very nice pair of Mission 74's that need a loving home  ;)
Pm me for pictures if interested.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / NCDC 2013 removal
« on: 24 December 2016, 10:37:57 »
My CD player is jammed up so the lad has bought me a very nice Alpine DAB unit for the car for Christmas.

Iirc, one of our European members managed to remove the double din OEM unit and keep the CID working by separating the units, removing the dodgy CD player out of the equation leaving the CID / NAV section connected and splicing in the new head unit into the audio circuit wiring :y

By my reckoning the OEM unit needs to power up on the ignition key or nothing will work, is this just a case of removing the key with the unit switched on and splitting the OEM kit up OR is it a Tech 2 job ?
Will disconnecting the battery screw up my cunning plan ?

General Discussion Area / These smart TV / Blu ray contraptions
« on: 18 December 2016, 07:24:21 »
Treat myself to a net enabled Blu ray player last week.
Registered it (with card details  >:() and now it is giving allsorts like Netflix, Amazon and some concert channel called Qello.

I take it Netflix ect are pay as you view channels (after the trial period has run out) but is this Qello free all the time ?
Had a look around it last night and there are some cracking concerts on there  :y

Also noticed that the lads blackberry and my laptop is showing on there.
Tried to connect them so I could stream music through my AV amp but it wasn't playing  :(
Can I take it that down to the laptops ect windows media sharing settings ?

General Car Chat / Corsa c remote central locking question
« on: 15 December 2016, 18:48:03 »
On a 54 plate ..............

In the process of wiring up this AI606 that me and the missus got Mini Me for his birthday.
Basically, its getting slowly done when we are both at home and have time  ::)

Right, its time to wire it upto the central locking system ......

First question  ::)

Where the hell is the remote central locking module on these cars ?

Second question  ::)

My thinking is it works on a applied 12 volt pulse from the key or remote to lock and unlock.
If I wire the toad up to the output from the control unit that applies 12 volts to the lock and corresponding unlock side, this will do the job ?

On a other subject (ish)  ;D
I've managed to dig out a old copy of TIS2000 but I cant seem to install it unless it lets me install IE4 first  >:(
Anyway around this ?

TIA  :)

I've been a bit of a Mission fanatic since I bought my first pair of speakers back in 1984.
Currently, I have a first gen Cyrus 2 amp and a absolutely lovely sounding PCM 7000 non oversampling CD player along with various mission speakers that makes up both my Av system and a music system.

The problem is, the amp is getting tired sadly  :(
It is starting to get warm when left plugged in but off at the power button.
It has a few dry joints around the input sockets.
Also the source switch is starting to break up to the point that I cannot use the phono pre amp side and the push button power switch is getting sticky to the point that you get a  nice "pop" when you power it up.

As for the CD player, imho the sound is as good as the day I got it about 20 years ago but the CD draw will only open if you physically pull the front flap down with your finger nail when pressing the open button.

Now i'm reasonably handy with PCB's and a soldering iron so i'm seriously thinking about stripping them down and replacing the selector switch and sorting out the dry joints.
I believe there is some components in there which was upgraded in later models which mine never had sadly.
Anybody know what was upgraded and where I can source these components ?

Just for the record, I am not interested in replacing anything with new models  ;)
It took me a long time to get this lot together and the sound I wanted  :)
Just looking to get these back to there best with maybe a little tweak here and there  :)

General Discussion Area / IOS 10
« on: 05 November 2016, 11:27:20 »
I've still got a 5SE which is still running IOS 9.somthing or another.
I notice that there has been a few updates to 10 since launch.
Is it working okay now or should I avoid for a few more weeks ?
