And don't ever agree to pay any renewal fees if renewing directly as this is where insurance companies make good money, where they don't have to pay third party commissions.

About time something was done about them  My father who is 73 has just had his insurance go up by £100 !! Went to the same company online and got him £120 off

I was trying to add the RX8 to my multicar policy the other day and, after several calls to Admiral got a price of ~£450 for 7 months (up to the renewal date of the whole policy) which equates to £770 for the year.

An online quote from Admiral for a year was £480..

I called back and the unhelpful lady gave a response of "We can't change the price. The price that you've been quoted is the price."

So another online quote and this time it was Diamond "For Girls" who had the best price with Amy as the main driver and me as named.. part of the same group of companies (Admiral, Bell Direct, Elephant and Diamond).

I called them up and this time the fella at the other end couldn't have been more helpful; in the end we rolled all of our cars (Omega, M3, RX8 and Amy's Micra) into one multicar policy and dropped the price of the RX8 insurance down to ~£400 for 12 months and the predicted renewal price of all the other cars dropped as well with a total saving (vs the original ~£700/12 months on the RX8) was about £700 across all the cars.

With the same company!

Madness and really shows the difference in quality of call centre staff..

Privilege is definitely in that category,so when I get my renewal I go straight to their website look at the online price and then get on to them and negotiate for that price,they don't like it but I DO!! ;)Makes my day... bunch of rip off tossers

..as the price suggests it's in need of a new engine

You have a choice of the 192 or the 231 engine. How much are you expecting to pay for the new 'lump'.......and have you noticed how far back it sits?

It's already a 231 so it wouldn't make much sense to put anything else in 

Most likely it'll go off for a rebuild and maybe a port & polish and remap..

From memory (and the RXer forum) a rebuild is about £2000.
The desirable 231 BHP version comes with a 6 speed box if memory serves. The 192BHP only has 5 speeds....I think.

Amy must be most pleased.

Actually she was mostly worried she'd broken it as it was fine all the time I was driving it (the first 20 minutes or so) and when she took over it got hot enough to start stalling

But yes - it's worlds apart from a 1.0 Micra with manual everything!

There's a company not far away who'll do a rebuild for around £2k which, given it's general condition, still makes it a decent price

£2800 in total sounds good to me.
The RX8 forum is nothing like as good as OOF but it may be worth joining. Cost is £25 a year. What year is the car, Aaron?
