I used to on my cortina's and capri's invariably remove the self cancelling on my indicators on the basis that if you put them on , you put them off when YOU want to, not when the self cancelling decides.
Have got the 3 flash thing on the Caddy van -- but I don't use it-I put them on when I want for as long as I want

Am currently in office approx 23 C , have got 3 t shirts, 1 jumper, jacket with 3 linings on-- however am not cold!
Heating is 1 oil filled radiator , and only 3 people.
Having said that I still prefer Mid east for the ambient temp (not the rest of it!)

General Car Chat / Re: How do you drive your omega?
« on: 27 September 2012, 16:34:51 »
When was using the FL ( auto) - tended to amble along ( similar to driving works van!- but a bit quicker)

now using MFL ( manual) tend to play - its nice to unstick the rear wheels ocassionally! but uses more juice - side effect is as an earlier post - bigger grin!

Have gone that route too.
Started off getting eyes tested - expensive (too me) prescription glasses, then mislaid them - got pair of cheapy ones which worked- now up to strength 3 , used to use Wilkinsons/asda but they got too expensive- poundland - so can break/lose without any worry - as usually have 2-3 spares in the car and elsewhere.

General Discussion Area / Re: Moved offices today
« on: 08 September 2012, 04:06:08 »
We moved offices a year ago-- had been in offices  ( as a company) for>25 years.
We were given 10 days to move out, by the building owners in USA, who had fallen out with our company owners.
Still have key- so old silencer system, general (unidentifiable rubbish- eg ironing board, firdge, freezer, microwave etc.) has been deposited in a suitable location.
Managed it and find somewhere else , luckily 300 yds away. not very suitable but time was pressing.
Then we had a leisurely move 4 weeks ago, with final clearout of the 'old' offices last week - which I escaped from by being away!

not too bad then!

use engine crane, and remove the air con stuff - doesn't work on either car anyway - for a bit of space,
then figure out which wire goes where!

The FL with dead engine - originally had camshaft sensor failure- new ( genuine didn't resolve ) - so might consider changing the engine magic box with the known good one from the donor.

Thanks for the info.

James , by the way the dead FL is the one you did timing belt on in Feb this year,

Omega General Help / possible 2.5 engine swap MFL manual to FL auto
« on: 06 September 2012, 19:14:58 »
essentially as title -
1/ had a FL CDX estate 2.5 petrol auto-- which I have managed to 'lose'  a head gasket.
2/ bought a MFL - tourer 2.5 petrol manual - tatty, scratched etc., 105k miles on clock, engine 67k only ( must have been one of the 80K! cambelt failures - as on the receipt Vauxhall paid 20% towards replacement engine!)- bought it mainly as immediate run-around - with possibility of putting engine in the FL - when the tourer fails mot miserably in oct.( or if not will continue running around in it).

Question -- Is it as simple as :-
a) remove engine /gearbox from each car
b) swap gearboxes ( as would prefer to have the auto in the FL)
apart from silencers etc. ( cats on mfl are better than the FL - so will swap best of most bits to the FL)-
I assume the engine management magic boxes are the same- so it maybe as simple as a bit of spanner work?
