MOT failure today
« on: 13 March 2012, 21:34:06 »

One of the 7's failed the MOT today from a tester who I know to be extremely picky. Even the owner of the garage (who I know) isn't as picky as him, get on well with him actually always a fair bloke, loves a balljoint but fair (the owner that is). Anyway failed on three tyres, a supposedly bent alloy, and on the same bent alloy an out of shape tyre, and the tyre rotation was on the wrong way round.

The bent alloy was the bit which got me the most though, mainly because I MOT'd the other 7 Series with the same wheel on and it passed no trouble, not even an advisory for the supposed out of shape tyre. More surprisingly the two front tyres which it failed on seemed fine to me, bit of extra wear on the edges, but all legal with a good 3mm of tread. So I'm somewhat confused, seems different testers pickup on different things, wouldn't complain about the garage as I always use them.  :-\

So it'll be a morning of wheel swapping between cars tomorrow, so there is an advantage of two sometimes  :-\

Just take it back when he's not in and try again or ask for the owner to do it. :y

Something else the new MOT's say now is, if you take the car away for the repairs to be carried out, you have one working day to take it back. I'll sort the tyres out and take it down there in the morning. Never seen that on the old MOT's? I thought it was 10 days.

I'll try and avoid him doing it as much as possible now, he seems to ruin and always has ruined a really good garage with his attitude. He tried telling me the Omega was supposed to have orange indicators on the back once, and not clear. It was a facelift which all come with clear lenses :P

Is that before you have to pay a retest fee???

IIRC correctly - at my local, at least - the new law gives you one working day for some faults and ten working days for others. I had ten working to fix the leaky shock on the Nissan (I went back on the 10th and viola, free retest)

I think the free retest is at the discretion of the garage involved unless its a minor items jobbie(which should be on show somewhere at the VTS)
